What is your greatest fear?

I have phobias of clowns, cockroaches, angry people, and regurgitation (such that I can't say or type the other words for regurgitation)...

But my worst fear is of going crazy enough that they lock me in a padded cell, and keep me away from other people or anything entertaining or interesting at all.

Also, I get paranoid that there are people in my house when the lights are off.

Death.

Death by such a huge margin. The idea of ceasing to exist with the world and time continuing without me is inconceivably terrifying to someone who can comprehend it - even only in brief moments of silence and darkness.

And to lighten the post up, sharks: when I was very, very young, I watched tens of documentaries on them - and now I'm convinced they're in every body of deep water. Silly, I know, but that's what a phobia is. Even more strange that I love sharks, they're my favorite creatures currently known to science.

Doesn't stop me surfing/sailing/swimming/water-skiing/whatever though, just so you know.

It's a certain animal that's in the first part of the Bible. I don't even want to say its name or describe it. I'm paranoid about it.

I no longer fear spiders. One time I was sitting at my computer and I turned the lights on, only to find a spider dangling from the ceiling right in front of my face. Freaked the fuck out. Now when I see a spider, I man up and kill the bastard no matter how hard they try to run and hide. Seriously, they say there are 15 spiders in any given room at any given time. THAT IS MESSED THE FUCK UP!!! I hope that's not true. We need to kill as many as we can. Each spider has how many babies? A thousand or so?! Screw keeping the bug population in check. I'll worship anything that can remove spiders and the other creature/demon. Great, now I'm freaking out about spiders again. I'm gonna go play Dragon Age 2.

I think my greatest fear is becoming my father. don't really feel like getting into it right now, but suffice to say we don't really get along (although it has been getting better over the last few months).

Or if you want something a bit less heavy it would have to be my fear of heights. I have such an extreme fear of heights I can't even climb a ladder without freezing up and starting to panic.

I can feel where you are coming from. My dad's an alcoholic who is terrible in social situations, very much against any level of homosexuality, rarely leaves the house, and cannot have a relationship with a woman due to complete lack of trust. Whenever I get a girlfriend he's always like "Don't get your hopes up" or "Don't get your heart broken". He thinks I am obsessed with a friend I have that's a girl, even though she's like a big sister to me. He tells embarrasing stories about me and has talked HUGE SHIT about my mother for years, nearly to the point where I couldn't stand being in the same room with either of them.

But that's enough about that. Got carried away. I have conquered a fear of heights over time. One time I fell off a bridge while hiking, fell about 15 feet into really shallow water. Shook me up, but was the first step forward. I repelled down a cliffside last summer. Was freaking out about it. Eventually it was only when I realized the worst case scenario was death that I could make it down. If I'm going to die, I'm going to die. I have the opposite of a fear of death. I'm almost impatient towards it, lusting to know what is after this life.

Basically that. I have a fear of spiders, but I can tell myself they won't do shit. Wasps just unnerve me completely.

This is my minor fear of course. What I fear the most at the moment is fear itself, specifically while sleeping in the manifestation of Pavor Nocturnis. And of course a close relative dying. This has happened a bit too much recently.

Im cyclothymic, and during my depressed periods, most "existential" things scare me.

I once broke down crying because I was deeply upset, confused and frightened that there were no universal moral rules, since morality would be largely subjective. (I study philosophy) I honestly was so scared I was crying. And as anyone here with depression, bipolar or a similiar disorder knows, add that to the terrifying feeling depression brings, and you are going to walk in front of a lorry just to get away from it. Strangely enough, more "trivial" things like spiders, the dark and the like have absolutely no effect on me.

During my manic periods, nothing scares me. I am too happy and creative to even think about fears. (If Im not studying them, smiling and now and then flailing my hands around shouting "Whoop de doo, there's so much to learn and to do!")

And when Im in between, spiders, a lot of attention, losing people I love... You know, all the regular things that most people feel.

I regularly skydive, whitewater kayak, and ride dirtbikes over ramps - and my chosen career will have me working on a nuclear reactor....underwater.

And I am deathly afraid of spiders. Seriously, fuck spiders.

I have to agree... wasps, bees, other stinging/buzzing insects like them.

If you want something a little different, dark water. I have an insane fear of darkened water. This could be cloudy or murky waters like you'd see in a river or on the beaches of England, or it could just be something like a swimming pool with half the cover left on. The latter may sound crazy, and I know full well there's nothing in the swimming pool, but the very idea of going near dark water scares the hell out of me.

Wasps are usually not stinging insects I'm pretty sure, they tend to bite. Bees are the asshole harpoon guns. If I am right, enjoy your liberation from fear. If not, enjoy our hostile planet.

Not only are they vicious little sting machines, they (unlike bees) don't lose their stingers and die after they attack you. No, they retain that little poison-pricking harpoon and can get you MULTIPLE TIMES.
