To reproduce and then die same as every other animal on the planet. What I do in the meantime is up to me. I have already had one child so technically unless I put out another one my life has no meaning anymore as far as the universe is concerned.
Apologies. Hm, that wine must have left a bad taste as everything had a tint of bitterness. eek!FPLOON said:"Man! The only way my purpose can be turned into a movie is if it was meant for Oscar bait, yo!" says young me...Xsjadoblayde said:Bitter, are we not? tehee!FPLOON said:Bitter snip
"Dammit, Jean! How dare you turn this movie into Oscar bait!" says future me...
"Say what you will... I'm going to become a published writer! BELIEVE IT!!" says present me...
Damn... My purpose is filled with such bitter... No wonder I never think about stuff like this...
Eh... To me, it's no big deal... Besides, questions like these really show off my true colors... Hence why I usually don't think about stuff like this...Xsjadoblayde said:Apologies. Nihilists! Fuck me. I mean, say what you like about the tenets of National Socialism, Dude, at least it's an ethos.MinionJoe said:I had an extended discussion about the purpose of life with a friend who has a Masters in Philosophy. It is truly amazing how pokemon can still make me smile in even the darkest of days!Johnny Novgorod said:Well...
I wanna be the very best, like no one ever was. To catch them is my real test... to train them is my cause.
I will travel across the land searching far and wide. Each Pokemon to understand the power that's inside.
Pokemon, its you and me! I know it's my destiny! Pokemon, oh, you're my best friend in a world we must defend.
Pokemon, a heart so true, our courage will pull us through.
You teach me and I'll teach you... Pokemon, gotta catch 'em all.
Every challenge along the way with courage I will face. I will battle every day to claim my rightful place.
Come with me, the time is right! There's no better team! Arm in arm we'll win the fight...
... it's always been our dream.
That's alright, but:Johnny Novgorod said:Well...

As a master's student in philosophy myself, I feel compelled to respond to this. Your friend only gave you at best half of the story (or depending on your perspective, didn't really answer your true question). It's one thing to say that there is no 'objective' purpose (i.e. innate purposiveness to the fabric of the universe that holds regardless of human opinion) and quite another to say that it's impossible to talk about human lives having meaning and goals that encompass our entire existence, even if we have to create that meaning/set those goals for ourselves. Most people who raise this question might be wondering about the former, but at the end of the day, they really are concerned concretely with how they should understand their existence, and how they should therefore live their lives.MinionJoe said:I had an extended discussion about the purpose of life with a friend who has a Masters in Philosophy. I'm pretty sure nobody buys that, including you.FPLOON said:Maybe my true purpose involves a life of seclusion...
