To reproduce and then die same as every other animal on the planet. What I do in the meantime is up to me. I have already had one child so technically unless I put out another one my life has no meaning anymore as far as the universe is concerned.

I've got tons of goals, like raising a child, loving my friends, my family and being loved in return.
Because when your life flashes in front of your eyes at the end, you won't see all those times you beat another man, or all those times where you succeeded at something, or bought this thing or aquired that thing, all you see is the people you loved and who loved you.

Personally, i would not like to reproduce yet or even ever. I house certain genes that should be quarantined for the safety of the human race. However, as i generally hold little sympathy the the species as a whole, not sure exactly what to do.
If you can create something that lives on after your death, something that can help or inspire, perhaps change the world for the good...then would life have any more meaning?
Also, if you were to seek the most pleasure for the least pain, one could argue that can be achieved with a heroin habit.
in the sense of the overall 'why does humanity exist?' my general belief is to breed and continue the species as we are animals and that is our primary function, survival, everything else we've made is a result of us standing upright and thus giving our hands free reign along with new-found boredom, "idle hands" were a plaything of nature long before the devil existed...
as for me individually, what is my purpose? i've no idea, though i've made it a point in my existence, as i figured out all the uniformity of human thinking long ago to 'make everything fit'... my self-appointed goal/purpose is to learn/know all that i can and make it all 'fit', all stories are applicable, all knowledge is made up, everything is true and at the same time a lie, like i said we human's primary function is that of animals and just to breed and survive as a species, thus all we've created, all we've 'learned' and 'discovered' is effectively all made up in our minds because we were 'bored' and wanted something to do with our new-found 'hands'... thusly i see no reason to discredit or throw away any of these ideas based on anything else... in my strange little world i've already got down how the gods and god get along, as well as all manner of fairy tales and mythos... its all true because 'why not?' science is basically magic, just because i know 'how' the trick is done doesn't make it any less amazing, therefore i see no reason to discredit either, both require the 'faith' in believing it exists to begin with...
strip away all the major details and all stories are the same... knowing that doesn't degrade anything, it just means those 'details' are that much more important and in the end we, all of us, are all the same and there is no real reason for any of this hate/violence of one another because really we're all just hurting ourselves...

I'm an agnostic atheist so I have a very unlimited meaning to life. What I want in my life is enough power to change the world. A happy, easy life does not appeal to me. Personally I just try to be happy. That's just vague enough to encompass everything in life I think, and just about all I really want.

That's not really the point. The journey is always more important than the answer or even the question. One you begin looking for the meaning you've already missed out on the point. Personally though; I have no idea. When it comes to humanity...I also have no idea.

its a pretty small insignificant life purpose. my recent childhood cat passed away a month ago he was a pure breed and was well loved. i wanted another cat and i've decided im going to be a pet rescuer of sorts. i love animals and i just adopted a kitten from the pound. these innocent animals get put down within a month if no one finds a home for them. its disturbing and i feel like i saved Ellie- my kittens- life. i plan forever now if i ever want another pet to always get one from an animal shelter. once i have a bigger home i plan on even getting an older cat maybe a 7y old so they can be loved and cared for. since no one wants to get an older cat, they always want kittens.
As I've grown older and seen first hand just how rotten human beings can be to one another, I've resigned myself to helping those in need as best I can, and to do my best to do no harm. That's really all I feel anyone can hope for.

As a master's student in philosophy myself, I feel compelled to respond to this. Your friend only gave you at best half of the story (or depending on your perspective, didn't really answer your true question). It's one thing to say that there is no 'objective' purpose (i.e. innate purposiveness to the fabric of the universe that holds regardless of human opinion) and quite another to say that it's impossible to talk about human lives having meaning and goals that encompass our entire existence, even if we have to create that meaning/set those goals for ourselves. Most people who raise this question might be wondering about the former, but at the end of the day, they really are concerned concretely with how they should understand their existence, and how they should therefore live their lives.MinionJoe said:
