What is your opinion of a beautiful song?

So tired of music threads.

Why doesn't everybody just say "Stairway to Heaven" and get it over with?

That seems to the popular consensus for good music, never-mind the 300 years of musical tradition preceding it.

And Bolero.

Don't be a wetblanket.

Here's another favorite of mine:

I'm not being a wetblanket, I'm trying to figure out if peoples' taste in music has declined so much that they're willing to accept touchy-feely guitar solos complemented by some squawking teenager, all preceded by a cheesy violin and piano intro as good music.

In today's day and age, we can call that good music.

But I don't think you can call the majority of music made in the last half century or so truly beautiful. Especially when there's far more complex, complicated, and musically sound pieces out there. As somebody who is fascinated with people like Mozart, it almost frightens me that people compare manufactured garbage to his music.
Hmmm I'm still thinking if that was supposed to be a compliment to my pallet in music or an insult!
But really everyone has their taste in music and we just have to accept that :) Even if it's a steaming pile of shit.
I accept it.

That doesn't mean I respect it.
Ah same here.
But now to my wonderful question, because of pure curiosity!

Was your previous comment an insult to my music pallet of metal and blues?
I have nothing against either genre and I listen to both on a regular basis. Not 80's hair-band metal and not the conventional style of blues, however.

But whether it's an insult or praise is something you'll have to decide on your own. No matter what I say you're going to assume the worst anyway.

This is the only Metallica song I listen to on a daily basis.
That is a really pretty song. It used to be my favorite. Anyway, on with my choice;

Pretty much anything by Sarah Brightman. Eden, Harem, La Luna, Hijo de la Luna. There are many but this is the first thing which occurred to me

Here's one more!

I enjoy all kinds of music. But there is absolutely no doubt in my mind that most the beautiful music ever written is orchestral music. Classical music especially. There isn't any other kind of music that allows for so much emotion. Anyone who says anything else is just incorrect.

I cannot define a beuatiful song, and that in and of itself is my definition. For a song to be beautful in my eyes, it must defy explination. You cannot put into words just what makes this song so beautiful, and any description will not do it justice. It must be heard, or they just won't get it.

Listen from 3:20 onward, it makes me very nostalgic.

A beautiful song is one that can invoke beautiful imagery in your mind.

Examples of songs that have been beautiful for me in the past (but may have now lost their beauty, I'll have to double check) would be:

Slipped Away - Avril Lavigne

Crucify - Tori Amos

Belanova - Hoy te Amo

Carnival of Rust. Really, most of Poets of the Fall music goes beyond just sounding nice and trying to reach an emotional level with the listener. This one, I feel does that best.
