My hometown of Wednesbury is known for pretty much nothing. Although the town where I was born (West Bromwich), a few miles away, was also the birthplace of some old famous actress, Madeline-something or other. Plenty of celebrities come from Birmingham, nearby, and nearby Smethwick is the birthplace of actress Julie Walters. Walsall, where I used to go to school, is also somewhat famous for it's old leather trade, including a leather museum, the Arboretum (and it's yearly illuminations which are actually even better than the Blackpool lights), and again, various old celebrities. My old school was also the school of Jerome K. Jerome (author) and Colin Charvis (former Wales national rugby union player) among others.
Seems to me the only thing my hometown is famous for is being right in the middle of other, more well known places, and not having anything to show itself.
As for my adopted hometown (the place I study and much prefer and want to stay in after uni), Leeds, it's famous for plenty of things. Most of which are related to one of the three main universities. Roundhay Park, nearby, is one of the largest parks in the UK and is also the venue of several concerts performed by Michael Jackson, Robbie Williams and U2, among others. Every year Leeds has it's own music festival (conveniently called the Leeds Festival), and Roundhay Park and Woodhouse Moor are two of the locations of attacks by the Yorkshire Ripper back in the Seventies and Eighties.
