Well i'm more of a soundtrack guy. Good music is fine on its own of course but if you take a thing, a character or a scene and craft a piece of music around it then it makes the music just that touch more awesome.

All good character soundtracks are perfect examples. Recently the BlazBlue soundtracks.

This song actually got me to like Tsubaki in general. I was not the biggest fan of her since she's just a crazy chick raving about justice and crap but the song does give me the idea that she is kind of clinging to that justice in sort of tragically misguided way. Oh and there's this fucking marvel of a song.

Oh Hazama... You fucking troll. The demented piano music in the background is awesome.

Then there's Bang's absolutely over the top guitar solo of a theme.

OK FINE. You want "regular" music then here, 3IOB. Best band evar.

Long story short, the best music tells a story. 3IOB's random tales of people doing totally rad metal things and a piece telling a character's story work on that same concept.

I grew up listening to Metal and electonic music, which lead to me developing a fondness for Aggrotech, which I have been listening to heavily for a couple years.
I've been trying to convince one of my friends to go with me to see Suicide Commando in Montreal this year. The tickets are selling out quickly.

Coldplay.

Oh shut up, I'm a sucker for alternative rock and I happened to become a fan of their songs before I even knew what the band was called. I'm also an avid listener of Gorillaz and The Killers, and I like a lot of old bands like the Beatles, the Eagles, the Rolling Stones, etc. Too many to list.

well i have 100.93GB of music in my itunes sooooo im pretty much into most music.
Sweet is this a competition? I have 168+ gb
If it IS a competition, I've got over 250 GB. There may be a couple redundant files here or there, though.

I prefer rock, but I listen to most genres pretty regularly. My top band would easily be Queen. Because Freddie didn't leave a mark on history--he french kissed it.

And while I'm never going to list them as a favourite band....

I absolutely LOVE modern English Folk bands like Mumford and Sons, Laura Marling, Johnny Flynn and the Sussex Wit, Ben Howard, and Bear's Den. I also really like progressive Bluegrass bands like Newgrass Revival, Punch Brothers, and Bluegrass musicians like Jerry Douglas, Bela Fleck, Sam Bush, Tony Rice and Mark O'Connor. falling outside of those two genres are The Carolina Chocolate Drops, an incredible Old-Time/Roots/Minstrel/Blues band that celebrates African-American culture by taking old minstrel tunes, Blues songs and traditional instruments such as the banjo, jug, mandolin and fiddle and somehow making amazing foot-stompingly epic music. I also really like The Avett Brothers, a North Carolina Folk-Rock band who inspired Mumford and Sons and Old Crow Medicine Show, a Nashville Roots/Country band.
I'd make a joke like "do I win?" but considering the weirdly large number of metalheads on The Escapist I'm probably in the unpopular category here.

My tastes stay generally within rock and metal, and the numerous sub-genres lying within. I guess I'll name the stuff I've been listening to over the past few months: Porcupine Tree, Opeth, Agalloch, Mastodon, Gojira, Paradise Lost, Baroness, Enslaved, Clutch, Devin Townsend, Soundgarden, Dinosaur Jr., Pink Floyd, Graveyard, Witchcraft, The Sword, Led Zeppelin, Iron Maiden, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Russian Circles, Pallbearer, Meshuggah.

It's mostly classic rock/metal/progressive rock/jazz bands, rap groups and classical music I listen too. The big ones most of you have probably heard, and big names you possibly haven't heard like Frank Zappa, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Emerson Lake & Palmer, Renaissance, Miles Davis, Masters Apprentices, etc.

Megadeth is a favourite of mine, they've written plenty of tough riffs and exciting instrumentals, I go crazy listening to Holy Wars... The Punishment Due.

I've just gotten back into Frank Zappa so heres a couple of big numbers from him if anyone is interested.

That last one might be the weirdest song you've heard.
