Yes, it's one of those. But I actually NEED to know it. I'm studying computer technology at the moment and we are tasked with finding out what kind of OS people use, and what is the most popular. I wanted to start a poll, but we are interested in every OS you use, be it laptops, home computers, handhelds, everything. We would also like to know why you use it and what you like about and what you hate about it.

In short, what OS and why?

Edit: Reson why I didn't want a poll: Well, it's just because the pool limits the options. I would never have had such a good response like the first post and some of the others down there if they just voted and moved on. We are interested in everything here. Polls regarding OS is also a little stupid because there are so many and I could never fit everything into a poll. So there you have it :)

Windows Vista Asus Laptop.

Windows XP home-built gaming computer.

The OS could not be changed on the laptop, even though I would have preferred XP. The gaming computer uses XP, as many of the older games I play are compatible with it, but not necessarily with newer OS.

Vista sucks. It's hard to navigate, it seems to take up so much space, and it has limited compatibility. XP is actually the better supported of the two systems. It's not as pretty, but it seems to be functional enough for me.

Was that all you wanted to know? Best of luck to you :)

Wouldn't it be easier to include a poll, I only have my desktop and its running 7 64 bit, I guess the main reason I use it cause XP was getting old, and I needed/wanted the extra power 64 bit would let me have.

Win7 64-bit.

I use windows because I game a lot and windows is the gaming platform for PCs.
I would like to use linux but cba learning to use it when there are so few pluses (for me personally) in using it.
I will never use any Mac OS on principle alone.

I like windows 7. Its the best windows I know, and I've been using PCs since dos 6.22/win 3.11. I've used win 95/98 which at its time was a huge step forward from 3.11. I've used win xp which was even better. I've used Vista which I also liked even if it was a resource hog, and it seems win7 just has the best of all worlds.

The only thing I am missing is better compatability to old (really old) programs that dont run in 64 bit environments. But I dont miss it often :>

XP Pro Service Pack 3, mainly because i have it on a disk and i wasn't going to shell out a heap of money for Vista or 7. Plus I know most of the little tricks with XP as opposed to having to learn them all again nand its a good platform for use as a gaming PC due to its compatability with old games.

Windows 7 on the gaming rig, for the heavy games. Mac OSX on the Macbook, for lighter games, working and programming. Xandros on an Asus EEEPC, to have a native UNIX environment to test code on, and just to complete the trifecta =)

XP Pro Service Pack 3.

Had Vista on my laptop and thought it was ok if a little slow, but when i popped XP on to it I realised how much memory Vista was eating.

I see XP as the wise old shark,
7 is the younger bigger shark,
and Vista is the beached whale being eaten by crabs.

Linux requires too much effort and Mac OS requires far too much elitism.

Mac OS Leopard. I love it, though I do want to get a copy of Windows 7 running through bootcamp, currently have Vista back there and I hate it, I've heard good things about 7 and I'd like to give Windows one last chance.

Mac OSX. Because Windows operating systems tend to be either 1) a complete mess, or 2) a decent system only because it directly took concepts Mac has used for years. Mac OSX is an intuitive and easy-to-use OS that is still capable of everything Windows is (save those things that Windows can only do because Mac simply doesn't need them; still a good thing). And now that Windows can be installed alongside OSX, there is still access to PC games: I use my Windows partition for games, and absolutely nothing else, because Mac does everything else better.

Specifically, what I have is Mac OSX version 5 (Leopard). I would love version 6 (Snow Leopard), but I don't mind Leopard. Really, each new version has been an improvement, but even early on OSX was a great OS; any version will do, though there are some features I would sorely miss if I went back to Tiger or something.

Vista. I was forced to and will remain so until I save up enough cash to buy a new computer.
