Purely practical: German (it's the language of eastern Europe) Latin (then you can sort of figure out French,Italian, Spanish and Portuguese), and Chinglish. For roughly a bilioen people are going to think they speak English, but they really won't.

I want to learn German, because it's an awesome language. I'm only in my first year of learning it, and the program may be removed for next year due to some levy failing to pass. But I'll find a way.
I also want to learn Ter Sami, just for the hell of it. (For those who don't know, Ter Sami is a dying language with only 2 living speakers left. However, one would be hard pressed to learn it. From Wikipedia: There are no educational materials or facilities in Ter Sami, and the language has no standardized orthography. The language is incompletely studied and documented; text specimens, audio recordings as well as dictionaries for linguistic purposes exist, but no grammatical description is available.)

I´m fluent in Portuguese, Spanish and English. I can speak a bit of Italian and French. But what I REALLY want to learn is Russian and Chinese because every cool superspy knows those two languages, heh.
Also, Japanese (so i can watch Anime without subtitles) and German (cuz why not?)

I actually made a thread on here a while back asking for help deciding what language I should start learning.
In the end, it was between Russian, and Italian. But Italian saw through, and I'll be embarking on my quest of learning shortly.

German is the language of Eastern Europe? 1 Eastern European I've known out of the 40-50 I've worked alongside the last 5 years has spoken German and that was purely because he studied for a while in Berlin. Russian should see you alright for Russia, Latvia, Lithuania, Belarus, Estonia, Ukraine and a couple of others. Poles can understand bits of Russian or bits of Czech and vice versa.rutger5000 said:

I would like to learn a couple of languages for practical reasons. When I get my HGV lisence I plan to tramp around Europe, most likely working for one of the Dutch firms so Dutch would be a start, French I need to improve on seeing as Canadian immigration smiles on those who can speak French aswell as English. Other than that, any country I find myself going to alot I will endevour to get at least the basics of the language down.
