ok my parents are planning to let me buy a Laptop for Christmas and i need some help.
see i know a little about PC hardware but Ive been led to believe that Laptops are different. so instead of guessing which one to buy im gonna ask you guys (and girls) for help.

here's what i need for my laptop.

it has to be able to play at least TF2.

it must cost between 200 and 350 Pounds

it must be resilient to damage and reliable (i know this is more down to software)

it should be lightish. (able to easily carry but not Ultrathin)

thanks for your help.

Sorry but unless you want to fork out five hundred quid for a laptop i can't see it playing any recent games (my laptop from two years ago cost me £450 and it barely could play TF2). You are better off buying a desktop for gaming (either save up for a model or buy it in parts) it would be more worth it in the long run trust me.

I recently just got a desktop after having a laptop and im glad i payed for it.

Oh and by the way Macbooks suck if you didn't know already.

Well, this is the cheapest laptop with a dedicated graphics card that I could find.

Laptop Link [http://www.amazon.co.uk/Presario-CQ61-406SA-Notebook-15-6-inch-Processor/dp/B0034G5G9C/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1290366711&sr=8-6]

A little out of budget, but looks pretty good.

Google doesn't have onmipresent experts on game hardware. Then again, neither does this forum. But this forum probably has more than "none".

i would say get a desktop unless you are getting a super badass laptop because with desktops you can switch out old parts (like graphics cards) for new ones where laptops tend to have graphics cards and other components fused into the motherbord wich cant be replaced cheaply

i would personally advise you get an asus though. they tend to make good gaming computers and they arent super well kown so you arent paying extra for a brand name

If you want to play games you should buy a desktop computer. Team Fortress 2 seems to have gotten really demanding recently so if you want a laptop that can run that game you should probably be ready to spend more money on the laptop.

GENERAL SUGGESTION:

Buy a cheap laptop, and put those savings into a beefy desktop.

No mac.

You can upgrade the desktop for years, and it will not "wear out" internally, the way a laptop might after a few drops.

An expensive laptop will become outdated more quickly, due to lower upgrade potential, and you have the added concern of dropping it and what not.

As has been said, if you want gaming quality get a desktop. I finally made the leap back from Laptops to a Desktop/Netbook set up and it set me back about the same amount as a mediocre laptop would have done. I'm currently playing Metro 2033 (not the highest spec game ever but damn nice looking even so) on its highest settings without it breaking sweat, and it only cost me £350.

Also as RAK said, you're being beyond unreasonable if you think a netbook or cheap laptop for that price will ever run anything like TF2.

Impossible. If you want a laptop that plays TF2, you need to spend at least £600, and that's if you get lucky. You cannot, under any circumstances, play TF2 on a netbook. You're just being absurd.
Pretty much.
A "gaming" laptop will cost 1-200 quid more than a Gaming PC twice as good.

You obviously don't understand graphics cards very well, so I'll use this chart [http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-graphics-radeon-hd-6870-radeon-hd-6850,2782-7.html] to demonstrate. I had an NVIDIA GeForce 6600 GT about four years back, which could just about play Half-Life 2 on Medium settings at 1024x768, and couldn't play Team Fortress 2 whatsoever. That GPU was substantially more powerful than the Intel GPUs used in laptops in your price range - see the bottom of the chart; that's where most of the Intel GPUs reside. Hell, for that price, you couldn't get a desktop with a GPU sufficient to play Team Fortress 2. Stop being stupid and educate yourself a little about hardware before you expect Source Engine games to work on a bloody netbook.
jeez. i said i didnt know much but... wow i might just up my price range a bit. (curse my optimistic leanings!)

thanks for the insightfull table ofGPU's though. that will come in handy.
