In my English class today, my teacher asked us to write things that we think are needed for a friendship.

I listed things like "Mutual Respect" and "Similar Ethics and Morals".

She then asked us to choose the one we think is most important, I chose 'Mutual Respect', and explain why.

I basically said that a friendship based on respect are often the strongest, as ones based on fear and popularity crumble easily.

So, what do you guys think the most important part of friendship is? And if you want, why?

HA!
Me and my friends have such varied opinions we should, by all means, be enemies.
I'm not sure how to answer this, because I'm pretty close to all of my friends. If you can't look at your closest friend like a brother/sister, or even hug them like they're family, then they can't be that good of friends.
That's just how things are in my life though.

In general... idk.
I guess a person needs to be there for you to be a good friend. This person needs to help you, no matter how right or wrong you are.

Yes, but they are your friends. There must be something in them that you respect.

Think about it.

Some kids that I talk to are conservative/right wing, and that doesn't get in the way of us being friends. It's not necessarily opinions that build friendships, it's finding common ground, and, like the OP said, respecting each other.

Hmmm... well, with all of my friends I tend to have some sort of shared interest with them. I have also grown some sort of love and respect to them all.

With my best friend, something that keeps us together is that we think alike and we are just like sisters. I trust her more then I trust anyone in this world.

It's not possible to specify the definition of a complex feeling with just one word.
Friendship is a mix of many feelings you have towards a person such as commom ideals, mutual respect, trust and others. However, the most important (imo) is to enjoy the time you spend/share with the other.

I wish I could explain in more details why but omg, I'm so sleepy right now! Perhaps I'll continue in the morning.

Just watch the intro to any tv show that falls into the genre of comedy. Even if they are acting its still so believable

that so true, to me time is also a factor.
like you said friends dont haft to share the same views but we need to understand each other and actualy get to know our friends, most of the time in doing so you lear a few things about yourself too.
