A brilliant moderator team that actually knows how to moderate without coming across as either lazy or over-the-top (you can disagree if you want, I'll respect your opinion)
The staff that work tirelessly to bring up site updates, content and news day in, day out.
And finally, you. Yes, you, reading this.
You've helped, in your own special way, make the Escapist what it is.

These forums have zero accountability in the sense that you could say the stupidest, closed-minded and ignorant things around here and get away with it. Just as long as you don't call anyone any names[footnote]Not always true.[/footnote]. The more time passes, the more sick I am of that attitude within the community.

Well, assuming the Escapist DOES work, I would be obliged to say that only those on the inside know how it all works. Given recent histories, I would also be obliged to snark that the Escapist does some rather distasteful things to get by, or is profoundly negligent, or both. Even then, I am not very optimistic about its future. So, for now, I offer this explanation in lieu of anything definite: Inertia.

This. In addition I would snark and say it works with javascript and probably php on the server which creates some of the html.

This is true.
When all members share a common interest, such as our's in Pimppeter's dashing looks, the community is bound to this core which keeps it from breaking apart and fighting among itself.

However, when topics of controversy surrounding this core are brought up, they are likely to incite a more violent infighting than in forums that are not bound by such a core.
An example of this would be the, formerly frequent, discussions on whether it is morally right to use Pimppeter's childhood pictures for private purposes.
In the past, these topics were discussed under the guise of paedophilia.
Due to their inflammatory nature, such threads are now banned in the forums.

The mods then, and their strict enforcement of the rules, are a necessity to keep the community in line and immediately crush any trolls and spammers that may try their hands in the forums.
