What makes you not able to trade in a game? And I mean beyond the trade in prices sucking for it. I was thinking about this the other day as I was trading in assassins creed 2, I really liked the game but I dont see myself playing it again anytime soon but on the other hand I still have darksiders and Im fairly sure I wont be able to bring myself to trade it in even tho it looks like they are making enough copies for it to be around and easily buyable for awhile. I think the reason I can let assassins creed 2 go but not dark siders is the art style of it, I love the art style of darksiders but assassins creed 2 just has realistic type graphics and thoes are rather boring to me. So I started wondering about the other games Ive held onto and what features thoes had that generaly made me keep them and for me usualy the art style keeps them in my collection, like I have a hard time briging myself to play super robot taisen endless frontier again but the art style and awsome 2d graphics keep it on my wall.

So after that excessivly wordy start I submit this question, what keeps you from trading in games?

The game being worth absolutely nothing at the store while not being complete suck.

I don't see the point in selling it then and just keep it around until a friend wants to borrow it.

There are, of course, exceptions. TFU got sold for 15 Kronor just because I felt dirty having it.

I've had Killzone 2 limited collector's edition since February because I lost the plastic packaging and can therefore not sell it.

Also, the only multiplayer that ever had me keep a game for long was Red Faction Guerilla's. That game had probably one of the most fun multiplayer's I've ever played. Even though it was always lag. But the lag made it fun. Your hammer had twice the range.

I keep my games because, for some reason, a few days after I sell them, I feel the urge to play them again, so I buy them back and waste my money. I've finally realized this, and will likely never sell a game again.

Honestly, I generally don't trade anything in. Mainly because, no matter how good or bad it is, I'll end up missing it immediately after. Funny how that works.

Because Steam won't let me remove games from my list.
Oh, you mean hard copies?

Well I never trade in games, but that is because I research a game through and through to see if i'll like it, and i'm usually right. But games that remain are ones with great replayability. Multiplayer is bleh so that won't save a game, but games that have dynamic features are the best.

Say L4D, just how the game does feel different each time through. The gameplay is sound (run, shoot) and it varies it enough to continue to be enjoyable. Other games have great stories, such as Mass Effect. The game is so wide and open that I never feel on a treadmill, that I can shape my character and story in many different ways.

The fact that I collect consoles, and like to have what I consider a "definitive collection" of games to play on it.

Laziness? I still have DarkSector and I really hate that damned game.

Usually, I rent a great majority of my games and only buy the games I've played and found to be fun, or ones I know will be good and worth the playthrough for the story, gameplay, etc.

The fact that I spent a good Australia-inflated $100 on it, and two months later, it's worth roughly $10. Games depreciate faster than cars.

Easy, I'm a fucking pack rat and just DON'T SELL THINGS LIKE THIS.

I don't trade in games, I don't sell old CD's, I don't pawn off DVD's, I don't yard-sale my cassette tapes, I don't donate my old vinyls, I don't hock off my old books.

Once a piece of media comes into my possession I will probably never get rid of it.

This MIGHT, repeat, MIGHT change a little soon. I do have some things like old gnarly paperbacks that I'll never read again that might be worth getting rid of.

Game wise, I have a couple 360 games I'm ALMOST thinking of parting with.

Maybe.

I have never traded in a game, and never intend to. It's my hobby to collect games and compile a library , like how some people collect books/records/coins/neckties/statues/taxidermy trophies/guns/trophie wives/etcIthinkyougetthepoint.

For me it depends on the replayability of the game, and if I actually liked it. Like I would never trade in Rock Band or Fallout 3 because they're two of my favorite 360 games, but I would consider trading in something like Banjo-Kazooie or Prince of Persia since I didn't really enjoy them.

I'm a bit of an avid collector so I keep a lot of games.

Sentimentality for one. If I got the game as a gift or some other way along those lines, I would keep it, or if it's a game I've owned for years. I still have the 1st 3 games I got with my old Playstation. Still work too. =D

I also keep them if they're part of a series that I collect.

The final reason would be replayability. In the case of modern games, online is the biggest factor in this overall factor.

If a game is just that damn good, regardless of how much replayability it has, I keep it. Take Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, for example. Am I likely to play it any time soon? No. Would I trade it in for a newer game? Hell no. Some games are just too good to give up.

It's like giving up a really good movie that you don't watch often. Sure, it doesn't grace your DVD player (or these BluRay players you crazy rich kids have nowadays) often, but it's just too damn good a movie to trade.

It depends on the game, but as a general rule, I'm a sucker for a good story; if a plot manages to hook me, it's a keeper. That's why I held on to Okami, Ico, Bioshock and Mass Effect while trading in Prototype, Metal Gear Solid 4 (yes, I used YouTube to get up to speed on the other three, and no, that game still didn't make any fucking sense) and Brutal Legend (so-so story at best, plus I resent being duped into buying an RTS).

well i think that if i keep a game long enough and have nothing to do i will play it again like i bought a few games recently and beat them within a day or two and had nothing to do or the money to buy a new game every 2 days so i start playing aliens vs. predator 2 on my pc or some other game that i havnt played in awhile just to keep my attention and if your lucky games that get old usually end up with some value way down the line like the gold Zelda Nintendo game cartridge i mean games stop getting made pretty quickly when new consoles come out and new consoles are always gonna come out and one thing i get really nostalgic about are games i used to play when i was little so i mean it has plenty of sentimental value so i mean 20 years down the line someone is gonna want to pay a ridiculous amount of money for my brand new never opened copy of final fantasy vii lol
