What Music Cheers You Up?

I've been having a bit of a rough time lately. So, naturally, I turn to various forms of entertainment and friends to get me into a better frame of mind. But you can't always hang out with friends - they've go things to do a swell, after all - and things like playing games, reading books, and watching TV or movies are not entirely viable options if you are, say, doing homework. Or driving.

At least, I hope you're not doing that while you're driving.

Anyways, there's still one common option left when those are taken out of the equation: music. There are always a few songs that can get me out of a funk, however briefly, and I love them for it.

My first choice is usually 'Vagabonds,' by the Classic Crime. The whole song is basically a love letter to my hometown, and the tune is generally so upbeat I can always count on them to give me a smile.

Also, because I live in western Washington of the U.S., and am also weird in several other ways, this song also manages to make me grin, though for shamefully ironic reasons.

So. How about you guys? What songs and music in general puts a smile on your face and a spring in your step?

Every time, without fail.

This track has gotten me through so much shit, so many bad days, I can't begin to describe how much I love it.

This has perked me up as of late:

Some Sigur Ros as well, particularly "Hoppipolla", although that really just makes me feel emotional, and which emotional it provokes can vary according to circumstances.

Lately this song has been my cheer up song:

Such a fucking good song. Actually, the whole album is fantastic.

A lot of the stuff from The Cat Empire, like Panama [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gwy729iPMLk], Strong Coffee [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G2gKHHmGXZ4], Boogaloo [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HxP6z4pkbS4] and The Car Song [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Taq2RBXjnwI]. Also the Protomens The Hounds [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LChtBpTjvTY], Maudlin Of The Wells Blight Of River Systems [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zc-IF7oRXYQ], The Offsprings I Choose [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0UWoqgQjl-I&list=PL4CFC1E8B9D2DD0AC&index=13], Murder By Deaths As Long As There Is Whiskey In The World [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lonz_cHJHNk], Muses Knights Of Cydonia [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q3Yc3HhSl1Q], Estradaspheres Mekapses Yitonisa [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=romVeYGa5CI] and Mr. Bungles Air Conditioned Nightmare [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uK8O5UgX8Z8] from the top of my head.

What can I say? I like music that activates me and gets me to do shit, hence the faster and more manic it is the more it cheers me up I guess. Also I like absurd humour so that stuff coupled with cynicism makes it funny and thus also works well in cheering me up :D

There's nothing better than a bit of power/hair metal to cheer me up when I'm feeling down. Alternatively chilled out music that is also pretty aggressive will generally do it:

As immature as it is, this song never fails to make me giggle like a schoolboy.

Anything by Weird Al Yankovic, Sonic music, 8 bit music, and Daft Punk always make me feel a little bit better when I'm in a cruddy mood.

Video game music in general, official or unofficial remixes of my favorite songs help me out of sad times. Any good version of the main Zelda theme will perk me up.

Anything by Gorillaz... Why does that cheer me up?? Shut up! ...I don't know... It just does... *grins*

Also, these song in particular:

Club music, in general, cheers me up regardless... (Must be the synth moments...)

It's impossible to feel bad after listening to chap-hop (Mr. B or Professor Elemental, they're both so great). The Darkness or The Upper Crust are pretty fantastic as well. Or Weird Al. Or Iced Earth. Or Dream Theater. Or Puscifer/Tool/A Perfect Circle. I'm easy to please-y.

Sounds corny but...pretty much any music from a Sonic the Hedgehog game - especially the older ones; surprisingly uplifting - but then again I grew up loving Sonic in general so it has that nostalgia effect for me.

My usual go to for feel good music is Death Metal but lately I've been going to these two songs in an entirely different genre to make me feel better.

The second one is just so feel good and the beat is so chill. The first one has some powerful lyrics at points that just up my mood.

Not just the song, but the PERFORMANCE! Near the end, her voice goes where no ordinary human voice can go.
There will never be another like her. Ever.

Also this song by her.

For me, it depends on how much I need cheering up...

If I'm particularly bad, then I'll only be cheered up by Aggrotech:

If I'm just not feeling amazing, then I'll go for some Power or Speed metal:

If I'm feeling a bit angry then I'll listen to some Thrash/Harcore Punk:

If I'm really angry or upset, then I'll listen to some Death/Tech Death/Brutal Death/Brutal Tech Death metal:
