I'm not buying either until I see them not breaking down within months ala the current generation of consoles.

Reason 5:it has titanfall
You haven't actually used the new controllers.
We don't know the full specs of the PS4 Eye (because Sony isn't trying to hard to force us to like it), so we don't know how exactly the Kinect compares.
You haven't used either console's multiplayer functions. Considering I found little difference between the 360 and PS3, I'd imagine the Xbone and PS4 will be relatively indistinguishable.
Titanfall is also being released on 360 and PC.

Anyway, PS4
1. Brand loyalty. I've been on Sony consoles effectively my whole life.
2. Exclusive titles (which is part of my brand loyalty). inFAMOUS: Second Son alone locks in this console purchase for me.
3. Fuck Microsoft, that's why.
4. PS+ is infinitely better than Gold.
5. I don't really need a fifth reason.

Neither.

Who decided we needed new consoles? They have yet to tell us a single thing these consoles can do for games that wasn't possible before.

Oh you can render a world and have tons of stuff going on at once? GTA has been around for a while, hell we have had that in PS2 and Xbox games.
But the new consoles are more powerful. So they can do more intensive things.

More powerful hardware has historically been the only difference between a console and its successor. (The NES to the SNES, PlayStation to PS2, and everything in between.) It's just that this past generation we saw our consoles do so much more than what came before, that some people are expecting the new ones should be able to blow us away in the same way. But that's not going to happen; not for a long time.

Buying a new consoles is, in concept, literally the same action as upgrading your gaming PC. You get a more powerful machine.

More powerful hardware = better looking games that can do more. Even bigger worlds, more fluid animation, more things happening at once. I think looking at Final Fantasy XV illustrates really well the difference hardware can make.

PS4
Reason 1: Best Exclusives.
Reason 2: Sony has the best controller.
Reason 3: Sony has been reliable.
Reason 4: No DRM shit.
Reason 5: Don't like Microsoft's consoles. You can pretty much reverse what I like about the PS4 and get an xbox, aside from DRM (which is a PC problem mostly). Add in bad GUI and ads instead.

I plan to get a WiiU as well so:
Reason 1: Still has good exclusives.
Reason 2: Nintendium.
Reason 3: No DRM shit.
Reason 4: Going to pick it up for cheap.
Reason 5: Not my main console so I don't mind if it doesn't have tons of titles.

Sigh.

Console: Xbox One
Reason 1: I was never bothered by "Dashboard Ads" or being spied on by the Kinect, everything with a camera spies on you. I was never bothered by the whole "Microsoft hates customers" or the Xbox One Headset exclusivity things either
Reason 2: Exclusives (Dead Rising 3 in particular)
Reason 3: DRM, Always Online, Kinect no longer mandatory (though Kinect will likely have to be on for most games =/)
Reason 4: The Wii U's awful controller and my lack of interest in the PS4, compared to liking the Xbox controllers.
Reason 5: Skype on Console.

Console: wiiU (already have it)
Reason 1: Because it's an actual game console, not a media hub. It is also not an emotion, art or testosterone box.
Reason 2: SSB Kerfuffle
Reason 3: Mario kart 8
Reason 4: Backwards Compatible
Reason 5: Zelda U
Reason 6: Bayonetta 2
Reason 7: X

Console: PS4 (Already paid off preorder)
Reason 1: Because it will have a few Sony exclusives worth playing, [small]I hope[/small].
Reason 2: It plays PS1 games
Reason 3: It's not an Xbone
Reason 4: Kingdom Hearts 3
Reason 5: Kingdom Hearts 3
Your third reason :/ uh isn't really backing up your argument. Like how dumb is this

Console: PS4
reason: fuck xbox
Reason: xbox sucks.

See? I say xbox sucks and don't give a reason why
Honestly it really goes without saying at this point. Microsoft mistreated the consumer base. Everyone who's remotely connected to the game market knows why people would think that the xbox one is a terrible, terrible thing so it really goes without saying at this point so take a deep breath and calm down.

OT: I already have a pc that beats out next gen consoles spec wise but if I had to choose one I would go with the Playstation 4.

Reason 1: As said I am being forced to chose and I am choosing not to give my business to microsoft
Reason 2: I've always been a Sony guy.
-Got my ps2, one of the first to come out and still going strong, same with my ps3 and my psp. I like Sony's products and trust their decision making in the gaming market.
Reason 3: Let's face it the Wii U is not a contender in this race.
- I love my Gamecube to death but it can't play gamecube games and the controller is more of a picture window than anything else.

That's really it. Like I said I'm comfortable with my current Pc set up but if I was forced to choose I would get a ps4. I may end up getting one down the line because I like Sony and would enjoy backing them because they have been in gaming for a long, long time and I don't want them to go away any time soon.

This is what I tried to explain in my post to him but you put it much better than I did friend

OT: in addition to my other reasons I would also like to say that the ps4 is the most powerful of the group.

I'm really considering a shift to PC for the first time this gen, but I would probably get a PS4 aswell.

Reason 1: I've been a Sony gamer since PS1, and I've never been disappointed; so the brand loyalty is there.
Reason 2: I have strong affinity with the Dual Shock, and believe it's the best controller. Keen about the new design for more comfort around the hands.
Reason 3: I have little respect for Microsoft's approach in pay-gating features that could and should be free; and having their customers pay to be monetized via ads and data mining.
Reason 4: I expect PS4 to continue to have more interesting exclusive games. It's supposedly more powerful, so in addition to exclusives having the edge; I'm also anticipating it having the better multi-platform versions more often than not.
Reason 5: PS4 seems to better represent the better deal catered to a no-nonsense gamer. Cheaper, (supposedly) more powerful, fewer inconveniences and more gamer-centric.

Having said that; the move from Sony to start charging for online play has really damaged my enthusiasm for the PS4. I know they're basically doing it because they saw how Microsoft got away with screwing their customers into shelling out for 8 years, and it's basically "why not?" but that's a mark against my trust in them, and a cost I'm not really prepared to cough up.

I haven't played anything online since Assassin's Creed Brotherhood multiplayer, and with most of my online experiences with various games earlier this gen I don't expect to be missing out on much of anything. The difference with this generation is that passive online & connected features in real time play and things like multiplayer drop-ins to single player are expected to be far more prevalent. What I'm dreading is that all this sort of stuff will be disabled unless I subscribe.

I know people find PS+ a really good deal, and I'm happy for that; but I also know the extra games and stuff are meant to keep you paying. I know how to project a subscription to cost me an extra £300+ over this console generation; and with the steeper cost of next gen games, I'm really not prolific (or rich) enough for all that to be worthwhile.

PS4 would have been almost perfect if it weren't for that mark. But now, it may be the last time I buy a console.

None. At least for a couple of years after its initial release. Buying a new system, before it has a decent library of games just doesn't make sense to me.

I've already gotten my next gen console, my Wii U:

1 It has games I enjoy playing/ am looking forward too (Monster Hunter, X, Super Smash Bros, Earthbound, Pikmin etc.)
2 The dual screen gameplay is interesting
3 Several of my friends will probably get it and we'll be able to play games online together
4 I'm able to play my Wii games on it as well (although not GameCube sadly)
5 Most importantly, it's fun to play

Oh god, it's HydroFire again

Console: Wii U ( I have the Zelda Limited Edition bundle preordered )
Reason 1: The controller
Reason 2: It's $299
Reason 3: You don't have to pay for online
Reason 4: Most of my friends are getting the Wii U
Reason 5: Nintendo exclusives. Enough said.

Also, why exactly did you only list Xbox One and PS4?

And why didn't you add a poll?
* thinks back to your last poll's results *
Oh... that's why..

Console: PS4
Reason 1 through infinity: Games. There is virtually no other reason to get a console than for the games. I already have a PC, I do not need another device to play multiplatform titles on, so it essentially boils down to the exclusives. And to me, Sony has always come up with a more appealing lineup. Not saying those are better games than Xbox exclusives; just more fitting to my tastes.

Also, Infamous: Second Son. I fucking love Infamous. Haven't been this psyched about a game in a while.

Console: Wii U
Reason 1: Pikmin 3 ( I love strategy games, and it'll be interesting to see what they do with the touchscreen controller )
Reason 2: Virtual Console games ( like Earthbound )
Reason 3: Fun games to play when my friends come over ( like MarioKart 8 and Smash Bros )
Reason 4: It's getting a lot of 3rd party games now ( like Watch Dogs, Assassins Creed 4 and COD: Ghosts )
Reason 5: Because I'm really hoping for sequels to my favorite games ( StarFox, Fzero and Metroid )

I need to give five reasons? errr okay I'll try.

PS4.

Reason #1: I don't want a Xbox ONE
Reason #2: I like the PS3 more than the Xbox 360 although I might miss Halo a bit.
Reason #3: I usually like having two consoles, last gen I had PS3 and 360, this gen I want a WiiU, which means I have to choose between PS4 and ONE.
Reason #4: History has shown that I prefer the games that come out on Playstations over Xboxs.
Reason #5: Microsoft XBOX ONE Confrence turned me off from getting a ONE.

Probably the PS4, but right now I'm happy with my current gen consoles and my PC. Huge backlog of games, plus I want to see if the next lot have any hardware issues, like the current lot did in the first year or so.

Also the Wii-U, some of the games I want just need to come out.

Platform: PC
Reason 1: Flexibility due to mods, configuration, choice of input device, etc.
Reason 2: PC exclusives.
Reason 3: Cheaper than consoles due to Steam sales (if you buy a lot of games).
Reason 4: HUGE library of games due to backwards compatibility and emulation.
Reason 5: Graphics and performance.

HydroFire, how can I get a job like yours at Microsoft?

Platform: PC

1: Because I need to upgrade my laptop soon anyway and spending an extra £100-£200 to get a really high spec PC that can game is smarter than spliting my money to buy a weak laptop and a £400 console.
2: More freedom to take my games with me where I want, can play anywhere in the house without carting around peripheries like TV/Monitor/controllers/kinect etc.
3: Can play PC exclusives that interest me like moddable Minecraft and Skyrim, and in the future Star Citizen and I'll probably give the new Everquest a gleek.
4: I prefer Keyboard and Mouse to Controllers.
5: If I find a good enough deal I might even buy a tower instead of a laptop, allowing me complete control over upgrading the system to keep ahead of the curve of gaming, and increasing the life of the unit indefinitely (although sacrificing maneuverability)

Well for next gen consoles in general I'm all for the WiiU:

Console: WiiU (already own)
Reason 1: I can play all the awesome exclusive titles
Reason 2: I can play all the Wii titles I missed last generation
Reason 3: I can play on the gamepad screen and hangout with my housemates watching tv at the same time
Reason 4: Most games that include couch co-op/multiplayer
Reason 5: There will be less overlapping titles between PC and WiiU (compared to all the multiplats that will come to PC, PS4 and Xbone)

Not really interested in either the PS4 or the Xbone though, there's not enough going for either of them based on my particular situation/preferences to justify owning them in addition to a PC and a WiiU (and a 3DS).

Console: PS4
Reason 1:I play consoles with friends, since Microsoft chose to exclude some of my friends, we have all decided to switch from 360 to ps4 so we can all play together. In order to play together on console games, we have to all have the same console.
Reason 2:pS4 will have a removable hard drive, which saved me big time when 3 Xbox 360's died on me and I was able to just remove the hard drive and put it in another.
Reason 3:pS4's camera is optional. I hate the Kinect and they can have back the one I have here in the box. I do not want to disable it, I want it completely removed. Due to them not offering an Xbox one without Kinect, it is forcing some not be able to play it due to no camera/ recording policies in break rooms at work. It is bad enough people have to pay to have the cameras removed from their phones to be able to take them on premises, but now Microsoft screwed them on their breaks as well. Disabling the device does not pass security, it has to be removed completely.
Reason 4: I don't use cloud storage on 360 and have no desire to.
Reason 5: I do not agree with Microsoft's vision of the future of gaming, and am concerned they would backtrack on their crappy policies later. I already have a smart TV, direct TV and PC's hooked up to my TVs, why would I need another TV device when I do not even watch much TV as it is. What I need in a console is a good gaming party device where many people can play at once and we can play with friends all over the world and have many people present in the room playing as well. People do not want a camera in their face when they are partying. People want a console that gets beer spilled on it and if it happens to get fried in the process, no biggie, take the hard drive out and slap it in another. Has anyone at Microsoft even been to a college party? You have hundreds of different people playing the consoles, knocking them around, kicking them and illegal shit everywhere and no one wants hackable cameras around. I have no idea what Microsoft thought consoles were used for, but they certainly didn't make one for that purpose this time.

Pc guy hey? Well yeah, I see your point but a good pc costs a lot. Some can be more than an xbox + 5 years of xbox gold. I've tried pc gaming. I brought an $800 laptop but it runs batttlefeild at lowest settings at around 30 FPS :/
Then don't buy that brand? I have a $400 tower that can run almost any current gen game on the near-highest settings.
I'm sticking with PC myself, much cheaper in the long run.

I will point out though, yet again I'm noticing a lack of "WiiU" on the console list. I don't want one of those either, I'm just trying to be inclusive.
But to follow the format fairly.

"Console": PC
Reason 1: Cheaper Exclusives
Reason 2: Near exclusive platform of my favorite genres.
Reason 3: I don't have an HD-TV and wouldn't be able to read any text off a console game hooked to my TV anyway (heck my 16" 16:9 monitor is bigger than my 13" 4:3 TV)
Reason 4: No stupid added subscription fees for a service I already pay for or should be free (online, voice chat, etc.)
Reason 5: Most multi-functional of the options. And if it weren't for the fact that I had a Tower-O-Power I'd say it's also the most portable.

*Reason 6: No stupid DRM of any sort -shameless GOG promotion here-
