Console: Play Station 4
Reason 1: Price is within my budget.
Reason 2: Kingdom Hearts 3.
Reason 3: InFamous Second Son.
Reason 4: Sony is making an effort to court the Independents.
Reason 5: I've been with Sony since the PS1. Brand Loyalty and all that.

Well actually Microsoft got rid of all that DRM now! Woot!
But they still tried. Pretty fuckin' hard, and they believed we would suck it up. That kinda says a lot about them. You wouldn't drop the charges on someone that just got accused of murder because he would no longer do it again. He still killed someone. But anyways
I would just choose the Wii-U. Any games that are coming out on the other two monoliths arn't interesting enough to me, or are coming out on the glorious master race PC. Oh and to comment on your over priced laptop, the hell did you buy? Alienware?
Wii-U
Pikmin 3.(PIKMIIIIN)
Games that are consistent and I enjoy usually.(Games in general)
It's cheaper.(Directed at both)
It didn't try shoving DRM down our throats.(Directed at Xbox)
It didn't brag about not having DRM.(Directed at Sony)
It didn't try forcing always on, always watching.(Directed at XBox)

Wii U

Only console that has first party games that I'm interested in.
Fuck paying online for a console that I'm going to use three times a year.
Platinum (one of the best devs out there) seem to be really really focused on the WiiU

Why are people responding seriously to a topic made by a MS marketing shill?
I'm not a Microsoft marketing shill. I simply prefer xbox one because it suits my lifestyle better. Just as a ps4, wii u or pc may suit you.

Platform: PC. Specifically 2 new graphics cards and a another SSD, plus a better keyboard, to bring her back up to 'Beast' status. I will max everything out at 60FPS on 3 2560*1440 screens goddamnit, and my PC will load in under 3 seconds [Used to with my current SSD, but I filled that up so now it takes 6 seconds. Get a new one, dedicate it to Windows, everything else goes on my other drives; Instant loading! Hopefully.]
Reasons:
1. [Arguably] Cheaper. I buy my games for $30 or less. I do not pay to play online. If I wanted to I could spend nothing next generation and still run games better than a PS4 or Xbone. Not including peripherals that I bought to enhance my experience [Better monitors, a good mouse, excellent speakers], the rig cost me $1000. Its lasted me this console generation, and will last me the next - or would if I didn't want to upgrade it. I could have spent far less, but I decided overkill was worth it. Not to mention that if I'd gone with a console I'd have had to buy that console, a TV to use that console on - seeing as the family ones are always taken - and a PC to use for non-gaming tasks, and that would've cost a fortune.
2. Controls. KB+M wins for any genre I care about, and a lot that I don't. Exceptions, of course, are racing games, and fighting games where the old arcade sticks are king. Oh, and Flight sims. Here comes the fun part though; Flight sims: Buy a Joystick or flight pad thing. Fighting Games: Buy a USB arcade stick. Racing Games: Buy pedals and a wheel, or whatever your prefered control method is.
3. Multipurpose. Not just for gaming. Consoles are finally getting to being able to do simple things like browse the Internet now, but coding, typing up documents, truly modding games [Not just creating maps with a few pre-set blocks and entities], server management, 3-D modelling, texturing - ect. Belong to the PC. A console could try to emulate this, all bar the WiiU would fail miserably thanks to no keyboard - typing is essential and a large part of most, if not all, of the above, and is impractical on a console. WiiU has a touchscreen that could be converted to a keyboard, but it'd still lose in ergonomics to an actual PC; A miniature keyboard is either inefficient or uncomfortable to use.
4. Exclusives. Two words; Star Citizen. One word: Starcraft. Civilization. Total War. Seriously, the number of amazing games I'd miss out on by not having a PC would suck. Sure, the consoles have a couple of exclusives, but I've never seen many of them as anything to get excited about. Played things like Gears of War and the newer Halos and they bore me. Halo CE on the PC was the best Halo IMO. God of War always looked silly, and I could never take uncharted seriously. Red Dead and TLOU looked kind of interesting, but not $300+ interesting. TBH the only exclusives I actually regret not having are the WiiU ones, like Pikmin, but I still haven't finished the original 2 on the Wii so don't have much need for that either.
5. Better quality. If development isn't done poorly, the PC will always come out on top with quality. Better image, smoother gameplay, hotkeys, load times - the PC will offer a smoother experience that looks, feels and sounds better. And its backwards compatible and future compatible [For a generation or two, seeing as DX upgrades mean you need to get a new graphics card that supports the higher DX] too.

Actually I'm almost certain that you can use an xbox one or ps4 on a monitor. But otherwise great opinion.

Console: Desktop PC
Reason 1: I currently have a laptop that is 5 years old and is soft of... dieing.
Reason 2: I like strategy games which are under-represented on console
Reason 3: As a platform it is less commercialised and has less privacy concerns
Reason 4: Games are cheaper (albeit unable to resell, but that doesn't matter to me personally because I keep all my games)
Reason 5: It's a better multimedia machine than consoles and I can use it for all computer tasks without having to buy multiple devices
Reason 6: I prefer keyboard and mouse control scheme which is on PC.

P.S. sorry, OneCatch, but my reasons are pretty much identical, i didnt plagiarize intentionally.

Console: Just upgraded my PC instead
Reason 1: It's my work PC, media center and gaming device & after 6 years of service it was having some problems
Reason 2: It's cheaper than any next Gen console in the long run easily
Reason 3: I had a bunch of parts that were still useful case, fans, HDDs, PSU, graphics card
Reason 4: It'll run all the new games easily
Reason 5: i7 processor, already faster than the consoles by a considerable margin.

Console: Desktop PC

Reason 1: I prefer genres under-represented on consoles
Reason 2: Dislike having to pay for multiplayer access when I already pay for internet access. (why should I pay twice for a feature?)
Reason 3: Mods
Reason 4: Less privacy concerns
Reason 5: No mandatory $100 gimmicks

Initially I'll be getting a PC, but later when the new consoles are a quarter of the launch price in a few years, I'll get a console.

Platform: PC
Reason 1: I use a PC for more than just games. My work involves a lot of video production and a high end system will be very useful with that. This makes the extra INITIAL cost of a PC justifiable over console. On top of that, all of the extra multimedia features promoted in consoles are already part of the package with a PC, and a lot more intuitive. I can't see myself using a console for web browsing, ever.

Reason 2: PC gaming is cheaper. I honestly can't remember the last time I paid more than £15 for a PC game. A competitive digital distribution market makes games AND DLC cheaper than the console versions.

Reason 3: More choice of control schemes. I don't care what anyone says, a keyboard and mouse is always always always better for FPS games. Always. As for the games that are better with a controller? Erm... I'll use a controller.

Reason 4: Better online multiplayer. First I don't have to pay any additional PS+/XBL fees. On top of that I get to play on actual servers, not on a p2p network where someone's console acts as the server giving them 0 ping advantage and often experiencing connection problems. Finally, if I buy an online MP game, I can guarantee (if it's good) that in 10 years time I can still get a game on it. Buy a console version, and you've got like 4 years (hello Halo 2).

Reason 5: Mods mods mods mods mods! Wallet too empty for that new DLC? Want to add some extra content to your game? Have a look at what the community has released.

Reason 6: Free to play games. Once again a good money saver.

I will get a console down the line.

Reason 1: Kingdom Hearts 3

Reason 2: Casual local multiplayer

Which console? PS4

Reason 3: Naughty Dog games

Reason 4: Insomniac games

Reason 5: Upgradable hard drive (500GB is nothing these days)

Reason 6: PS Plus instant game collection

Edit: PC Reason 7: I love custom building a new PC. Always a fun day. :)

Console(s): PS4 & Xbox One, PS4 before Christmas and the Xbox One March/April next year
Reason 1: Sony Exclusives
Reason 2: Xbox Exclusives
Reason 3: PS4 and PS Vita interplay and Xbox Glass with the Xbox One look interesting
Reason 4: PC gaming is a priority but I still like some console games
Reason 5: My PC has an upgrade (GPU) planned next month to meet next gen requirements

Platform: PC/360
Reason 1: I already have them.
Reason 2: I haven't the money to spend on a new console.
Reason 3: None of the exclusives interest me.
Reason 4: Any game I am interested in (see Titanfall) is coming out on one or both of them.
Reason 5: Steam is a lot cheaper and has a wider selection of games.

If I'm forced at gunpoint to choose between the new consoles, then I'd go with the PS4.
Reason 1: It's cheaper and doesn't include things I don't want.
Reason 2: Less bullshit attached.
Reason 3: Doesn't include extra shit I don't need.
Reason 4: Gaikai would be good for me since I don't have a PS3.
Reason 5: Nothing on the Xbox One interests me.

Well I've already got a decent enough PC, and a Wii-U, so the only logical step for me would be a PS4.

Xbox One has been a disaster since it was released, and nothing has convenience me to change my opinion overwise. I just can't trust Microsoft to keep to their promises, or to make a decent machine that won't crap out in five minutes flat.

Plus, despite having more exclusives to the PS4, none of them scream "must buy" to me. Many of them are also timed exclusives, which i could possibly pick up on PC in the near future.

I will probably be getting a Nintendo 3DS eventually.
Yeah, not really next generation (well, it's for me...), but the only consoles I buy are portable, really. Most of my gaming occurs on my PC.

I brought an $800 laptop
There's your mistake. If you want a PC for Gaming you should go for a desktop. Laptop's are overpriced trash.

OT: Probably neither, I am confident in my PC's abilities to keep up with the next generation. I do enjoy the console for some things, for example fifa or something but... It isn't really worth the money to me. Maybe in a few years when the price comes down I might consider making a purchase but.. I have my doubts.

Neither yet.
No offense to those who are, but I never buy a console on launch unless a family member gets it for me because to me, buying a console at launch is just another way of saying buyer's remorse since later there will be more games which will be cheaper due to used copies and time and also the console will be cheaper for the same reasons.

Console: Neither. I'm going to stick to my PC.
Reason 1: Console games are way more expensive than getting the game on Steam, HumbleBundle, GOG, ...
Reason 2: Backwards-compatibility. If I want to play an old game, there's a very good chance that it'll still run. Otherwise, I can just emulate the old environment in an application like DosBox and have fun.
Reason 3: I need to have a beefy computer anyway as a programmer, so it only makes sense to re-use the investment in my computer for games as well.
Reason 4: A much wider range of games. With closed environments like consoles you're stuck with whichever games get published for that console. On a PC, you can very often emulate old console games that were never made with the PC in mind (sidenote: I only emulate games that I actually own already, it's usually quite cheap to buy the physical version on the internet anyway).
Reason 5: Computers are the best of both worlds: I can use the keyboard+mouse combination or I can choose to use my wireless controller. Console games usually don't control a keyboard+mouse setup, even though all consoles support those nowadays, I think.
Reason 6: I can set up my computer as a games-only rig as well with the Steam "Big Picture" mode, should I ever want to.

I could come up with several more reasons, but plenty of other people already have so I'm not going to waste any time on that.
