So we have defence/offence, Multiple game modes both official and non-official, More hats than weapons (235 hats 179 weapons without misc's), Every single meet the team video, a yearly video competition, a strong community and far more maps than any other games... All for free
What now?
It looks like Valve has already put in everything they want into Tf2 over it's 6 year lifespan and personally I don't see what they could do next to make the game interesting that wont involve mixing up the game so much you get Tf3.
So what could they do now to make the game interesting but not a full out sequal?

Linux port with penguin hat/misc.

I'm also going to guess this years Halloween update is going to be MvM based, got absolutely nothing to show why I'd think that at all though.

Perhaps a new game mode beyond MvM. I think it'd be cool to have a game mode that incorporates several other modes.

Like a large map where you have to capture the control points to open the gates. Then lead the cart down the rails to blow open a wall, which in turn leads you into a place where you need to steal the briefcase and return it to your base.

Like all other modes as the attackers get forward spawns push forward for them, and push back for defenders.

They could leave it as is and I'd be fine with it. Well...except for one thing: Kill the Pomson. Dat particle size.

But they aren't going to be done with TF2 for a long time. MvM is making them stupid amounts of money.

Ha forgot about Halloween. For the time being I guessing they're adding to MvM making it a little more tolerable apart from that. More hats?

Rollback features. I'd like to see a feature brought into TF2 to use player set "eras" of TF2. Like if you wanted to play a hat free, drops free, original six maps with the original balancing for weapons, you could do that.

Gotta admit, I would like to see that; I guess that's what the appeal of the version that came with the Orange Box on consoles was, y'know, if that hadn't failed miserably.

They should just go ahead and let the community make new game modes. They already do everything else for that game

More MvM type games. I think that they'll use MvM to create an official Zombie Survival thing. So, instead of Mann vs. Machine, it'd be Mann vs. Zombies. Also, they need to have some new "Doomsday" maps: They could use something like that during Halloween too.

MvM maybe a MOBA spinoff with the now created monster AI.
I want that. All they have to do is tone down the HP and damage of the bots and make a map in which both teams play against each other, each with their own robots and MOBA style towers. MvM is basically a MOBA that only has a PVE map at the moment.

Won't TF2 see new content purely because it's what Valve uses for its experiments? Recently, Filmmaker and the MvM tickets come to mind.

I guess there should be some fan gamemodes that should be given the professional makeover and added as official. (also I would love to have the multiplied weapons stats be a gamemode run by more than 1 server) Release a tool for easy editing of files for modders. (or does that exist already) Make a lot more weapons because some classes still only have 2-4 weapons for certain slots I guarantee the hats will not suffer. And for my last idea have a crate that has a 1% chance to drop that can have any strange in it. (just for the cool factor)

There's only one thing that Valve could possibly be working on for TF2...
I'll show myself out now.

Well they haven't got zombies yet, or nazi zombies, or terrorists, or nazi terrorist zombies, or pandas, pandas are the bees knees right now.

Super Monday Night Combat is basically that, except in third-person instead of first-person.

I know nobody has ever heard of it, but it's pretty fun. >.>

Er... I don't actually play TF2 though, so I'm not sure where Valve could go with it.

I've actually tried it, but it was too MOBA-y for my tastes, in that it's less twitch skill and more timing, or at least it is at the beginning. You have the whole "start weak, slow, and boring, wind up strong, powerful, and interesting" thing going on. MvM is more like "start out as Spiderman, end up as Superman," in that you've got some impressive stats to begin with, the upgrades just make things crazier.

Edit: I mean, I love MOBAs, but if I want something timing based, I'll play LoL. The thing that had me interested in SMNC was the possibility of someone who is skilled enough at shooters being able to beat someone despite a level imbalance -- a shooter with MOBA elements, in other words. SMNC goes the other way around, being a MOBA with shooter elements that makes the playing field less about twitch skill and more about timing.

Fair enough, it is far more LoL than TF2 in the way the game mechanics work. I think they could make it more twitch-skill-based if they survive long enough to get more and more Pros out for use, right now there's a bit of a limited selection and they are balanced around the leveling mechanic pretty extensively, so if you're going up against a Pro who's got a two or three-level gain on you, you're probably going to die.

[sub]I just wish there were more people playing it. There's only ever an average of like, 300 people on the North American server, meaning if you're going for a few matches in a night, you're probably going to be matched up with/against the same people over and over again.[/sub]

Who knows? Maybe a new Boss Mode, maybe zombies, maybe events. I know there will be more maps, more game modes, more EVERYTHING. Especially hats.

Valve has plenty of ideas, idea's are cheap, and easy. Valve will take the ideas, refine them, and throw them into TF2.
