I was just thinking how I don't see all that many comic book threads around The Escapist (I'm sure they're there. I just don't see them) and I wanted to hear what books people read on a regular basis. Just throw out the series you read, maybe talk about your personal favorites a bit. Let's just have some fun and talk about comic books

For me there are 9 monthly series I read right now

X-Factor
Deadpool
Deadpool MAX
Avengers Academy
The Defenders
Red Lanterns
Green Lantern: New Guardians
Blue Beetle
Angel and Faith

I also read Futurama Comics and Lady Mechanika, but those don't come out every month. I just pick those up when I see them.

And then of course whenever a one-shot or a limited series comes out that interests me I'll pick it up (I recently finished the four part Legion of Monsters LS)

One of my favorite comics right now is a series called Chew from Image, but I just buy that one in Trade. It's more enjoyable to just read those through as one story.

I'm also thinking about picking up the new World's Finest from DC when it comes out in May. Power Girl has always been one of my favorite DC characters (Both yes and no for the reason you're thinking)

How about you all?

all of which have been friggen AWSOME

Ive been wanting to read Freakangles but I cant find 1# of the paperback in stores and damned if Im going to read it online...thats just not kosher with me

Ive been aprehensive about getting into anything "mainstream"

Chew is about a (more or less) alternate time line where Bird Flu lead to the F.D.A declaring chicken illegal and becoming one of the most powerful law enforcement agencies in the country.

Our main character (Tony Chu) is a cibopath, meaning he gets psychic visions from whatever he eats (if he eats a hamburger he gets flashes of the cow, how it was killed, etc. etc.) during a stakeout while working for the police, he ends up at a chicken speakeasy and eats some soup that the chef accidentally got a few drops of blood into

I won't spoil what happens, but long story short, Chu joins up with the F.D.A and is basically working a lot of interesting cases with the help of his "gift"

So basically it's a pretty good mystery story, with a special touch of awesome food based super powers mixed in (there are others with powers besides Chu)

Currently volumes 1-4 are out in trade and volume 5 I think comes out in April.

I highly recommend it. But I'd like to point out that I love both mystery novels and food, so I might be slightly biased about it lol

Oh, and sorry for the double post here, but if you enjoy Spawn, have you considered looking into Haunt? It was put together by Kirkman and Todd MacFarlane, so it has a somewhat Spawn-esque feel. I stopped reading around issue 16, so I'm not sure what's been going on with it lately (I know the original writer and artist are no longer working on it...)

chew sounds...uhh....interesting :p

I have heard of (and seen in stores) Haunt, however I think when I read about it, its said "reveiws were" mixed which I found kind of off-putting, though I dont generally take note of that kind of stuff

thanks for the info!

Yeah, I mean the premise is kinda neat, but I'm not gonna pretend it's the best series ever. There is sort of a reason why I stopped reading it (well, I didn't stop 'cause it was bad, I stopped 'cause I was trying to cut back on books, and Haunt was just one I didn't care about as much)

And Chew is sort of for a niche audience lol it can be hard to make it sound appealing.
