What people will forget in a zombie-holocaust

Even if zombies showed up one day. They would not stand a chance in hell. By now everyone knows what a zombie does and how to kill them but even if they did not it still would not happen.

Random dude starts eating other people, first thing everyone else is gonna do is shoot the fucker. If he does not drop they will shoot him in the face. Then when the second person gets up and imitating his behaviour they would shoot him in the head too.
Zombie threat wiped out.

If you saw someone shambling around biting people would your first thought be Zombie or drunken psycho? Most would think the latter is true (including the authorities who have the guns (i'm english, it's rare to find someone over here in posession of a firearm that isn't in some way connected to the government and they will not fire it without filling out 19 health and safety forms in triplicate)) by the time they realise and have filled out the nesecary paperwork "drunken Psycho" has bitten half the population of south london, that is not a quick fix.

He brings up a good point though, location, where subject zero Is could drastically affect what happens, hell there Is even the chance It could be somewhere where he gets killed instantly, infection over. Then again It could be somewhere where they could spread like locusts.

Well if playing Pandemic has taught me anything it is that if it starts in Madagascar they will sacrifice them selves for the good of the planet. If it starts in Asia or Africa we're all doomed, except Madagascar.

I'm going to make a few referances to World War Z here and offer a few helpful hints to the military.

1. If you are going to make a military line in the sand to hold off undead forces, make damn sure you have enough ammunition for sustained operation.
2. You can forget about flashbangs, toxins or noxious gases as they won't do a thing. Also don't really bother with heavy artillery, as the lack of a 'balloon effect' for a walking corpse makes such explosions have almost no effect on large crowds.
3. Remember that no matter what we do in combat, zombies are never going to retreat and are never going to be afraid or fall back, so making a limited amount of ammunition and an emphasis on looking threatening is not going to help here.
4. Do not use landwarrior communication systems that allow people to talk over the battlefield, all it does is allow panic to spread in battle.

Simple ways to have fun,like a pack of cards or something.Zombie apocalypses are tiring and sap the morale.If you don't have anything to take you mind off it even for a second,you're going to go crazy after 2 weeks.

I would advice against musical instruments.Making alot of sounds will attract zombies,and I don't think they'll form a mosh pit and rock-out when they hear your awesome guitar solo.

I think most people forget they aren't super athletic action heroes. If you are, good for you, but I'd bet most people at one point would get winded, tired and couldn't run anymore, especially if they're carrying a lot of stuff. Also I guess most think they could automatically overpower a single zombie no problem or hold out with a melee weapon against a bunch. I could imagine it's tiresome work where a lot can go wrong and having to wrestle a zombie would wear you out quickly.

That's why my answer to the "what would you do in a zombie apocalypse?"-threads is: "be a zombie"

The whole battle of Yonkers didn't sit well with me, we hear about it from an unreliable narrator obviously skewed against the decisions. The only problem we definitely know about them running out of ammo and that's never truly explained. Also landwarrior doesn't work the way he depicted it, from what I've heard, it goes up and down in rank mostly and doesn't allow just any soldier to talk to another random solider.

Hygiene.
Many potential survivors would probably be killed off by easy to prevent diseases because they neglected to wash regularly, clean out wounds and exercise proper latrine conduct.

Thats actually a very smart thing to say... When my virus gets loose i have hopes for you.

I would say proper food storage and care. Most food will go off in a month, not enough to outlast the adrenaline fueled zombies who run till they drop. Storing and keeping enough food to iether survive until rescue or survive indeffinately will be a very hard task. Basic logistics i would say and rationing. I think a lot of people will die of thirst if the taps stop working. In that event water will start getting scarce assuming enough survivors survive to scavenge it.
