If people are constantly pointing out that your logic is fallacious and citing the specific fallacies you're employing they -are- making real points. Maybe you should pay attention.
Oh, but it's not happening to me.

I'm talking about when I read arguments/conversations online. Once that card gets pulled, it usually means the conversation will degenerate from there, and, thus, I lose interest.

If I'm actually in an argument, I'm interested no matter what. Because, y'know, I'm kinda involved! =D

Any mention of logical fallacies.

How about coming up with a real point, eh guys? ;p
To clarify, do you mean hearing a logical fallacy shuts you down in a conversation, or do you mean when someone points it out?
Because for me it's definitely the former. I welcome the latter - I can't stand it when people hide behind bad logic, so I definitely appreciate it being pointed out (if I'm not the one who points it out myself).

"My entitlement program is being cut!"
"I have to vote for Obama to get my Cell phone covered."
"I owe Twinky $12, I'll pay her next week after i get my cigs and foodstamps."

-_-

Now if your are Financially Independent (investment income > frugal expenses) then my eyes are wide open with interest.

When some people try to dig up irrelevant information from your past 2-6 years ago to try to persuade others against anything you say.

When co-worker consumers just bought a house with a 30 year mortgage, a new F350 Truck guzzler, and spend $200 every weekend, then say they are in tons of debt and they hate their jobs.

When you can't respond to a Thread/Article here, or especially on Yahoo.

Thank you for doing the exact thing that annoys me so . I no longer consider you are able to contibute anything positive to my stay here at the escapists , and thus you shall go on my ignore list . Your friend is the exact reason i don't associate myself with most black males, they make us look bad . Yes , us . Not only did you manage to annoy me , but you managed to offend me at the same time . You're 2/2 , here have a cookie. I hope you friend ends up where black males "stereotipically" end up . Shot or in jail . I'm not racist but...
So suddenly african descendants can't love fried chicken or listen to rap?
Why? Fried chicken is delicious. Good rap is really... well, good.
Doing everything in reverse of stereotypes is just another stereotype.

Thank you for bringing up one thing that really annoys me "Yes , us"
As if the fact you are part of said group gives you right to define what this group is or does.
You're just one tiny part of it.

For example, while I do believe best gaming platform is PC, I understand that any platform that can support good games is worth to exist, because gaming is much more broader lifestyle than anything I do as a gamer.
(not the best example I admit)

Another one:

"Piracy is theft!"

Because I can pretty much tune out as I know right away the person has fuck all idea of what they are talking about.

While it is technically inaccurate, it's much easier than saying the following:

"Piracy is a criminal act that is under most countries seen as equal to theft due to the obtaining of intellectual property that you have no right to access without paying for."

Until a term is used to describe it in a more easier way, it's much simpler to say it's theft, even though it technically isn't.

specifically:

"..I've been doing this for 20 years"
"..I don't like Obama so I voted for Mitt Romney. Oh? Mitt is a mormn?" (that to me, seemed a bit ignorant, enough that I can never take this one person seriously again. I don't care what Mitt's religious beliefs are but I feel it's important, at a minimum to at least know what they are before you vote..)
"..you're rationalizing"
"..they're stealing our jobs"

"I'm Not Racist But" or "I'm Not Homophobic But" or "I'm not [Negative Stereotype Here] but [Argument that supports lampshaded attribute.]"

At the end of the day it's just... really? If you're going to say something like that, chances are you are the very thing you are denying.

That's the very thing I find annoying, because it's still that persons ego trying to paint themselves as justifiable in representing a negative stereotype. Like really, you're not humble enough to acknowledge your own short comings? Why not just say "Maybe this is racist but I feel...." or the like? Is it that hard to really challenge the fact your perception of reality may not be accurate?

Like really? Theres no shame in admitting that maybe you're harboring those kinds of beliefs so long as you can acknowledge those feelings are coming from a negative place. That's the point of being human, to acknowledge your flaws and short comings and try to learn and better yourself.
I'm not racist, but I have a severe dislike of Muslim culture becoming prevalent in England due to the sheer size of the rift between English and Middle-Eastern practices, with regards in particular to the treatment of women, to the freedom of religious belief, and the average level of tolerance displayed by the more vocal members of each.

"No offense, but *insert offensive sentence here*"

Seriously, it annoys me to no end!

I also agree on the whole "As a *insert profession here*" Thing...

It's just your opinion, no need to state such a thing.
Wait , added your profession SHOULD make their opinion more valid , assuming that the topic is somethinf related to said profession . I mean i rather have medical advice from a doctor than a carpenter ....

OT: Someone once told me : " If you want to stay friends with someone , avoid talking about religion and politics" . So i avoid those topics alltogether . Also , "i'm not racist but..." makes me lose all interest in the person. Periode . I have 0 tolerence for racism of any kind .
Dude..."I'm not racist, but" HAS legitimate applications.
I'm not racist, for instance, but sometimes you just have to comment on stuff like black people and their mysterious love of fried chicken.

I had a roommate named Denzel for a couple years. Most stereotypical black guy you can possible imagine, with the exception of his odd flamboyant personality. I KID YOU NOT, he kept our fridge stocked with orange soda, "purple drink" (which I did not know was a thing until then), and watermelon.... and the kitchen counter almost ALWAYS had an empty KFC bucket sitting on it. Dude woke up in the morning blaring gospel music, listened to rap during the day, and switched to R&B at night.
Some days I wonder if Denzel was just messing with us (his 2 white and 1 middle-eastern roommates), but there's no way someone would keep that up for 2 years, right?

In my Game Design class we were talking about having a party the last week of school. The professor was all "we could get some pizza!" the class-clown dude was like "HELL YEA, and we'll get some hookers and blow and PAAAAARTAY!"(completely joking, obviously), and then a black dude in the back of the class goes "Oh shit, man! Can we get some fried chicken up in here too?!"(he was dead serious) The whole class just missed a beat and then burst out laughing. Poor dude look confused for a minute til he realized what he'd said.

How do you explain that?

So, "I'm not racist, but dude...black people seem to love them some fried chicken."

Sometimes it's a legit phrase.
Thank you for doing the exact thing that annoys me so . I no longer consider you are able to contibute anything positive to my stay here at the escapists , and thus you shall go on my ignore list . Your friend is the exact reason i don't associate myself with most black males, they make us look bad . Yes , us . Hold on...what? This person, who you have never met, has a different personality to the one you deem acceptable and so you hope he gets shot? Or imprisoned? How could you wish for such a thing? Are you suggesting that people can't like things if stereotypes suggest that they should like them? Because that's just altering your tastes and personality based on popular opinion, which is ridiculous, especially when it's referring to something as inconsequential as food or drink preferences. Leaving aside the issue of racism, wishing someone get shot or imprisoned for having different tastes is just a dickish thing to do.
Eh,I think both are wrong. Krazykidd definitly for taking a stereotype for all it's negative connotations and Baron_Rouge for acknowledging a stereotype from one guy. Though Baron_Rouge may be joking, a very bad joke, at least.

OT: Racism as well as politics, religion, incest and pedophilia. Some people have strange thoughts on these kind of things both in real life and (mostly here) on the internet and those topics lead to just anger because most people are just stubborn to understand each other, especially when Hitler can be so easily thrown around.

The latter, although I'm talking about when I'm reading or listening to a conversation I'm not participating in. Conversations just degenerate from there, I find, so I move on as soon as I see something like this mentioned.

When people post things complaining about why they're offended by stuff or why stuff bothers them...

Huh, I realized that while reading through some of these, funny that.

When people start to talk about how good they are with the ladies, one of my friends does it a lot and he's still a virgin so he has nothing to brag about. Politics and religion annoy me to no end.

-"As a (insert anything here)"
-"You're speaking from a position of privilege."
-Trying to prove their point right via quote (A dead guy agrees with you on an issue, so what?)
-Any "Religious people are stupid/Atheists are evil" comments

Well, I rarely converse on here anyway, but there are very, very few topics and phrases that actually do shut down my interest. However, what typically shuts down my interst in commenting is the realisation that I am either:

1. Too uneducated/stupid to comment.

2. Too bad a writer to express myself clearly.

3. Forcing myself to type too long posts, which increases the risk of me bungling the articulation and ending up saying something I didn't intend to.
