What really matters

I´d like to do a little one-sided collaboration with ToonLink and his recent thread [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.91601]. Now that we´re on the subject I ask you, for what would you give up everything? I´m not asking you to literally throw away your very lives but to think for a moment, what is above you; What do you consider greater than yourself? Is it god, some higher ideal, your significant other, ponies...?

This question arises in to my mind every now and then, and it bugs me because I can´t quite think of anything that really feels important. I have ideals I try to follow while tottering my way through life, but I don´t really consider them as "above me", more like "in me". Perhaps essentially I only live for myself... Well enough wallowing in a putrid swamp of existential angst. What do you bow to?

So, again, nothing is above me. Not a person, not a thing.
I always assumed God was just the only player of reality who had all the cheat codes.

I can honestly say that I have no idea what I would do. The nature of humans is to survive, pretty much no matter what. There are incredibly rare cases of self-sacrifice for the life of another, its mostly the kind of thing you see in film. Here are things and causes that I think I could sacrifice myself for:
-Very close friends including my immediate family
-A large percentage of the environment
(and this one is going to sound fucking stupid but its true)
-If a dragon existed and I had to save it, I'd do it, its a fucking dragon

I´m doing fine, thanks for asking.

Yes, you are completely that cool and hip that if God actually came to Earth and proved his existence you would just be like "oh, hey". I'm sure you get excited and piss your pants when a video game comes out that you've wanted for a long time (who hasn't that is on these forums) but you wouldn't even come close to doing that if the Almighty Creator revealed himself?

Excuse me if I have many reservations. If Samuel L. Jackson were to say what you said, perhaps I'd hesitate to say the same to him.

Well to be fair, I don't think he or she exists. So if he or she were to reveal himself, I might be surprised, but I wouldn't really care much. He's not my god, after all.
But I'd probably take a swing at him and be all, "Where were you for the past few thousand years? 'Cause you could've just been like, 'Stop fighting, [x religious group] are the ones who are right.' Or 'New rule: No more holy wars. That includes all of you.'"
And, er...no. I've never been really excited about a game release. You obviously have no clue who I am if you think I get excited.
Well, without turning this into a religious debate, you are confusing omnipotence with omniscience, and confusing capacity with action. As well as the "free will" established by God if you believe in Him (and if you don't, you must at least know it to argue with someone who believes in Him).

But to keep this on topic, I'm rather sure it is obvious what I would put above me and already do, that which is God.

If the question is what would I be willing to die for, the first and only answer is the future of mankind. If I had children I would say those, but it amounts to the same thing.

Yes, that's right! [Websitename.com] has all the cheats you need to become the very best you you can be!
If you want me to go to your trojan-infused blind link front site, you'll have to use worse English than that. I refuse to check out any cheat code or song lyrics site that doesn't promise to give me "the m0st very bEst."

I am indeed hipper than a side of meat, and cooler than a freezer.
Oh dear. "I am so cool you could keep a side of meat in me for a month and I am so hip I have trouble seeing over my pelvis." And no I didn't have to look that up XD.
