What RPG was I playing?

I remember years ago playing this PC RPG at friends place, the first mission you're on a boat and land on some island, run around the island, then when you finish you get a map where you can choose where to go next.

It played similarly to certain missions in Warcraft (RTS, no WoW) where you have your main man, who is a hero that levels up, then a bunch of smaller weaker units also following you. You couldn't build these other units though from what I understand, they just started with you, there was no base building.

I'm not a huge RPG fan, but felt like playing one the other day, and I remember thinking that one was quite cool even though it was some years ago. Still, no idea what it was called, anyone got any ideas?

Sorry for the overly vague explanation. Let's just bullet point it, if you know a PC RPG that fits this bill...

-Isometric gameplay
-Non-linear
-From 03-04
-Involves a boat
-Also a fair amount of text, events don't happen with action sequences, but with reading.
-Not turn based
-Fantasy
-Character design, choose race/clas/ect

I really dunno if any of you will be able to help me, cus I only played it for a shortwhile and it was long ago, but please just brainstorm some RPGs that fit some of them points for me so I can check them out.

I'm gonna guess it was Geneforge.
Nah, grahics where much nicer than in Geneforge.

I've also come to the conclusion it's not Sacred and it's probaly not Heroes of Might & Magic.

was it turn based or not?

If so, then the first mission of Age of Wonders fits the description (except you can build units if you conquer a city on the island) and it's not a rpg.
Boat, map, isometric, text, somewhat non-linear, leveling hero.

Yea, RPG RTS I suppose, and it wasn't Dungeon Siege.

When I say you start on a boat I mean there's a big lot of text that is about how you're on a boat then there's a storm and you crash, I'm not sure if you ever actually see the boat outside of a black and white hand drawn picture that goes with the text.

It was not turn based.

I'll update the OP to say so. Don't worry guys, we'll feel great when we work this out.

Could it be some kind of Warlord Battlecry campaign? Custom maybe?

I haven't played all 3 BC games, but I do recall playing some missions without base building in BC1.

The crashing ship and island thing reminds me of a much earlier game - Ultima VII part 2, Serpent Isle [http://www.mobygames.com/game/dos/ultima-vii-part-two-serpent-isle].

You've got me intrigued about this game though. I'd try having a search through MobyGames [http://www.mobygames.com/home] if you can, I'd really like to know what it was!
