What?s with these inappropriate adds?

Had a similar issue but was for a very graphic sounding murder 'thing'. Freaked me out every time to the point of me silencing it every time. Considering the audience here would likely make up under 16's (UK), why the age restricted adds on humourous content

They still scare me much less than what's been showing up on IGN lately. They own Askmen apparently, and now the ads I get at the bottom of their articles are, and these are the exact titles that appeared on three I opened just now to prove my point here:

- "Fingering tips video"
- "G spot and female ejaculation video"
- "Real breasts video"

That sounds like the case to me, too. I just checked IGN, and all the ads I saw seem to be for videogames. Sounds like somebody has been browsing porn without taking the proper precautions; antivirus programs, they're like condoms for your computer

OT: The ads rarely bother me much, but then I don't actually watch much video content. I'm here for the forums and the print content, mostly. As for why they're so oddly targeted, the person who said the Escapist was poor and took what it could get was right. Kross said something to that effect during the whole Extra Credits thing a while back; they have terrible cash flow issues, partly as a result of the difficulties they have getting advertisers. It's why you'll occasionally see ads for individual shows on the site; the adspace wasn't paid for, and they needed something to fill it.

I think that's just Google ads, and I don't think the Escapist uses those.

OT: It's odd- I almost never get ads. I guess ones for my country's slot (Israel) are uncommon, but it makes me feel kinda bad. I mean, I know the Escapist is having financial issues, and frankly I'd sit through a few more ads for this site. It's worth it for all the entertainment is gives.

Any who. What happend to the adds you could skip after like 10sec, at least that way we could skip them if we had no interest in.

parents or other worried people can easily block most adds. For firefox and chrome there is the free plug in named Addblock Plus.
If you are using Internet explorer the selection is less obvious. There are several commercial products available, but I have not tested them and therefore cannot recommend one or the other.

Tread lightly in this territory--admitting to using an adblocker or encouraging others to use one will get you in a lot of trouble on this web site. The Escapist receives money from how many people watch the ads, so adblockers lose them money. So come on, the Escapist has some great content, and we get it all for free. Let them have the money they deserve, or at LEAST to keep the site operating.

The Escapist did trial those sort of systems a while back as well. Though, I will admit, I don't think they use them now because of all the uproar they caused.

The Gamer stereotype is a spotty teen sat in his parents basement with little to no interaction with the opposite sex, so how are they NOT appropriate?
They are aimed to appeal and draw in hits from horny teenage males.

I get the same kind of thing.
I live in a tiny town in Sweden that, should I believe some adverts, is crammed to the rafters with single, hot supermodels, just waiting to meet me.
My girlfriend would be pissed off if I were looking at dating sites, so my only conclusion is that I am being stalked.

I do remember seeing an ad for some women's fashion something before a Zero Punctuation video, and I remember thinking, "does this interest any ZP viewer in the slightest?"

It clearly seems to know I'm Canadian. I get tons of adds for a bookstore that as far as I know, only operates in Canada. (I should know, I work for them.) So it's got that going for it.
