I use Bing. Google is evil since it places cookies on your computer so that it knows what you are doing until 2038 (or so I have read). And you use yours because...?

...........
Google of course. I'd like to start using a lower profile one however, because I am aware of Google's evil plot to rule the world.

It's not like you can't set up Firefox to not take Google cookies if you don't want them.
Doesn't change the fact that Google catalogs all your searches & much [much] more on their end.

It should be on one of those google conspiracy pages if you look it up. If you go onto Anonymouse.com and then to google, you can avoid it. But, the very first time you use google without being anonymous, you're stuck with it.
What are you talking about?

...... And? Gathering that kind of information is how a company knows what they need to fix or expand upon. Grocery stores keep track of what people buy the most so they know what they have to order all the time. Computer companies keep track of what laptops people buy so they know what is liked and thus what features to put into the new laptop.

I will never understand why it's considered evil if a company keeps track of what its customers like or do most often since that's the only way they can know how to improve their service.

Google. They have a Chuck Norris joke if you type the right thing and choose "I'm Feeling Lucky." My mom showed me that. Plus Google's always been good to me.

Google, because I don't feel like changing my instinct. It's just been too many years to change what I use now.

Google, because it's awesome. Seriously, if you're only using Bing because you don't want to support the tyrant that is Google, you're really not doing it properly - Bing is owned by Microsoft... you may have heard of them.

That's only A reason. I use it primarily because I can get to things I want to know faster, plus when I'm searching for pictures, I'm not as confined because Google deems it pornographic or something (no I don't roll like that).

If the grocery takes stock of which foods are purchased that's supply and demand. The premise of Google's earlier search engines was to return search results based on which pages received the most hits off search terms. But them moving to profiling me has too many negative connotations.

Google's earlier search engine -- Grocery analyzing which products are purchased.
Google's current search engine -- Grocery analyzing which products each particular customer purchases.

So wait, you like Bing because it gets you to porn faster?

Well, you'll get no argument from me there - that's a pretty awesome reason :)

Aren't you mister "I like to twist things around"...but if I met someone that I would support them for wanting to see naked ladies. Seriously though, I don't roll that way.

But then wouldn't that help Google to make each individual customer's experience more positive? As opposed to having to make generalizations over what people prefer, they can get far more specific, thus making everybody happy. Seriously, unless you're searching for child pornography on a regular basis, what does it matter if a company knows what websites you frequent?

Its not actually google that made that page though.

When you click im feeling lucky when searching 'google chuck norris' it just directs you to the most relevant page.

Google - just because it's a habit, I suppose. I have tried Bing, and it works as well. But then again, so does Yahoo. For most basic searches, all search engines will generally give a good result. I use google because that is what I've been using for the past 8 or years, and I can't be bothered to change it to Bing.

Plus, Google's interface is simplistic and clean and not cluttered with images and pictures and all that stuff, like it is with Bing.

But no, I have no real reason to use Google over Bing, other than the fact that I've gotten used to Google, and I don't like the name Bing. Really.... Bing? As in "Bing! Your page has been served!"? Is "Bing" supposed to invoke the noise my microwave makes when it finishes warming up a dish of cold pasta? Because that's really what I want to be reminded of when I use a search engine.

On the other hand, Google is meaningless, but sounds like Googolplex which is a big number and gives the impression that the engine can search through a lot of pages quickly. I am aware that Google has not indexed a Googolplex amount of pages (which is more pages than in existence), but I like the science-y sounding name of Google.

Does google keep info? Yes, I've heard that it does. But I'm not searching for "bad" things, so why should I be worried? I have anti-virus software that rids my computer of cookies and I have set up my browser to clean cookies every time I shut it down. So I'm not worried, really. Google cannot use the info against me, and to be honest, why would they? Who am I? I'm a nobody. Google have no reason to come after me, and even if they wanted to, I think they would have a hard a time searching through all that accumulated data to find something out about me.

Maybe in the future I'll use Bing. Maybe. But it would take something pretty major to make me change.
