That is far from true, not only have I had a change of heart due to a conversation I had in R&P, I have seen the same in many others there as well. You may not see it often, but when someone thinks the other person is right and rethinks their position, they do actually tell the person who has a point they have a point and expands their understanding. Over my years in R&P I have seen that happen more often than I thought I would.Armadox said:I want you to reread that sentence, then look at where WW was. I want you to read it again. Either they both stay albeit modified, or they both should go for the same basic reason, they're toxic and should NOT exist as present. Personally, I'm all for both going as long as it kills R&P, a forum for people who's minds will never be changed to scream at each other from across the world in a means that has no end goal or positive save pissing each other off and having a mod ban someone until one of the members is left. Mods could be better used elsewhere. Actually... Mods COULD be better used elsewhere. How about we put R&P in the spot WW was, without a mod or rules. If it's superior to the WW cause it has a point, then it'd obviously never turn into a shit show right? Not have members calling out others for being Nazi's right? Not have passive aggressive spite turn into actual aggression. Right?Lil devils x said:Armadox said:Kill R&P. Same stuff as WW with a coat of civility. Re-open WW, nuke R&P from orbit, add a new "no targeted harassment" rule to WW.
Ban R&P.
From my perspective, if someone does not want to be called a Nazi, do not promote Nazi Ideals. If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it should be okay to call it a duck. We have had people on this site say " I am literally Hitler" and promote that nonsense, to say you should not call someone a Nazi when they are admittedly a Nazi, promote Nazi Ideals, or promote White Nationalism, is saying you cannot all them what they actually are defining themselves as through their position. That is not the same as calling someone a racial slur, it is calling out specific political beliefs that are extremely harmful to the majority of people on the planet and that promote the extreme harm of others. White Nationalism, White supremacy, Nazism, and other racist Vitriol is not what should be considered an accepted position to start from when you are discussing actual policies to be implemented. The very existence of such beliefs means to harm other groups and is insulting to persons they are speaking with.
Calling someone Racist, Sexist or a Nazi is not in any way the equivalent of calling someone a racial slur, nor should it be treated as such. It is not being called " a word" or a "bad name" it has a specific definition that is determined by the positions and beliefs that are being promoted. It is more like calling someone a democrat, republican, liberal or conservative. Yes, you can misuse the words sexist, racist and Nazi, liberal or conservative but people misuse words all the time, and their misuse should be addressed as such. If the position taken is not racist, sexist or like a Nazi, then it can easily be shown to be the case. Due to our worlds actual history of Racism, Sexism and Nazism, I do not see those as being " off limits" in any way for discussion as that is what we sadly have to fight against in our current political climate so that hopefully one day, our Children's children will not have to deal with it as much as we have.
To try to put racial slurs on the same level with actual harmful political beliefs, only serves to protect and legitimize the racist beliefs in the first place. There should be no protection or legitimization of the promotion of Nazi ideals. Doing that just allows people to promote Nazi Ideals by using another name and not allow anyone to call it what it is.
