What TV shows do the British and other Europeans watch? I speak of shows besides Doctor Who, Torchwood, Red Dwarf, Blackadder etc. I'm seeking out shows that are popular, but have yet to be introduced to America and spread like virus.
Ah, Peep Show and IT Crowd are brilliantNickolai77 said:Peep Show, IT Crowd, The Inbetweeners and Not Going Out all all popular shows which have not made it to America, or at least as far as I know.
Whatever happened to Black Mirror? Is that still on? Or was that a two-season deal?ScrabbitRabbit said:Ah, Peep Show and IT Crowd are brilliant
Besides what Nickolai has mentioned, we also have a lot of single-series (think 6-13 episodes for the length of our series) dramas that come out on ITV and BBC. They can actually be pretty good but they're almost uniformly depressing as fuck. They tend to draw a lot of viewers, but you aren't looking at a single franchise here. Normally when a series it's done, it's done and they just make a new one.
A disproportionate amount of them seem to be period dramas, too.
I saw a trailer a while back for a US remake of The Inbetweeners so that has made the journey across the pond at least. Here's the trailerNickolai77 said:Peep Show, IT Crowd, The Inbetweeners and Not Going Out all all popular shows which have not made it to America, or at least as far as I know.
6-13? Aren't half of every TV show made in the UK only 3-4 episodes long?ScrabbitRabbit said:Ah, Peep Show and IT Crowd are brilliantNickolai77 said:Peep Show, IT Crowd, The Inbetweeners and Not Going Out all all popular shows which have not made it to America, or at least as far as I know.

The American version is just a dreadful rip off of the British version as demonstrated by the following clipMetalDooley said:I saw a trailer a while back for a US remake of The Inbetweeners so that has made the journey across the pond at least. Here's the trailerNickolai77 said:Peep Show, IT Crowd, The Inbetweeners and Not Going Out all all popular shows which have not made it to America, or at least as far as I know.
Never watched the US version so I've no idea how it compares though
WOULD YOU START THE FANS PLEASE!Bolo The Great said:Mainly re-runs of the earlier series of "The Crystal Maze" right now.
Wasn't the same without Richard O'Brien....
All this stuff. The Inbetweeners hasn't been on for a few years, but they've made two films since then and they both smashed the box office. I think they were making a US adaption but it looked... less than stellar.Nickolai77 said:Peep Show, IT Crowd, The Inbetweeners and Not Going Out all all popular shows which have not made it to America, or at least as far as I know.
There's also a lot of popular panel shows like QI, Would I Lie to You? and Mock the Week which are very popular but probably won't ever make it to the US (think QI is an exception) because you need to be familiar with British (celeb) culture and politics to get them.
Have I got News for you is also brilliant, but again you really need to know British politics to appreciate it.
Damn I remember that.Frission said:I like "Fort Boyard".
