What the hell happened to the devil trigger?

Alright so I saw that unskippable was Devil May Cry this week and it sort of sparked the memory of this miniature rant. After devil may cry 2, what the hell happened to dante's devil trigger?
Here's what it looked like in DMC2

So if you'll look, the face gets demonic and cool looking, the hair spikes up Dragon ball z super saiyan style, he grows wings and claws, gets surrounded by a demonic red lightning aura, and lastly but certainly not least, he grows a small minigun from his hand which is capable of throwing either fire, lightning, or ice depending on what you have equipped. As for his clothes, they don't really change, but they sort of start budding this wierd but cool demonic biomass stuff. Badass right?

Now, apparently capcom thought that needed reworking, so in devil may cry 3 (warning big picture)
he turns into this abomination for no conceivable reason.
Edit: To those who can't see this image on the embed:

WTF? He looks like a rejected Tim Butron character. Instead of his badass super saiyan hair and demonic look, his face is now this thing that looks like a chrome version of one of those floppy eared dogs. His pants and shoes obviously molded into his skin or something to form what looks like an early sketch of Harley Quinn's outfit from batman, and his leather jacket turned into some weird butler-esque jacket with the collar popped to such uncomfortable lengths even the drunkest of frat boys wouldn't think it looks cool. Though he still grows the wings and claws, they're much more easily looked over. Why capcom decided to change the devil trigger design is beyond me.

The DMC4 version is kind of like the "middle ground" of the two. (another big picture ahead)
I don't like what they did with the wings, and the red masquerade mask thingy on his face is kind of stupid looking, but overall it's not a terrible design.

What are your thoughts on this? Should capcom go back to the old trigger? is this new look better? Is there any reason why they didn't keep the badass DMC2 trigger?

Holy hell! The original one looks fucking awesome! OP, I agree with you, they should keep the original. Also, one of the images is broken.

I suppose it could be argued that in 3, it's the first time Dante unlocks his Devil Trigger and changes and evolves into what you see in DMC 1 & 2. I have no reasoning for the 4th game, but then in my mind, I'm not including that as canon, just a bad dream that Dante had.

Original looks the best, the DMC3 one looks slickest though. No clue what is up with DMC4 though, anywho I still have yet to finish any DMC game because I'm a failure like that.

I agree, the original was better. He looks way cooler, and in 4 his face just looks weird. By the way, I can't see the second image.

It probably gets more demonic as time goes. DMC3 was canonically the earliest (and his very first DT was mid-game). DMC2 is the latest one in the timeline, so it'd probably be reasonable to say the DT evolves to become more like that as the games go on.

my fav was the DMC1 alastor DT

my theory is that in DMC3 he was young and only just got his DT so it was probably in its infancy .. what we saw there was probably baby devil trigger XD ... also it wasn't the same designer

DMC 1 and 2 look cooler and more wild .. he was a little older too so maybe that's devil trigger adolescence LOL .. teenage devil trigger ... the 4 one looks the oldest and most mature out of the lot ... like it's an adult now

DMC 2 is the end of the end of Dante's story, so his alot older and powerfull. While DMC 3 is the beginning of Dante's story, so his not as strong and hasn't fully mastered his demonic powers.

True. His DMC3 DT appearance was designed by Kazuma Kaneko, in exchange for letting Dante appear in Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne.

The Cerberus and Beowulf triggers were awesome, though. One raised your attack speed, the other your defense. If you were a Trickster player who specialized in those weapons (me!), you had it made.

And hey, what did you want? Come on, now, DMC3 gave you PLENTY of other devil triggers to choose from. Optional costumes?

DMC4 I'm pretty sure is set after DMC1 but before DMC 2. So DMC 2 is suppose to the oldest which explains why it looks the most epic.

okey okey, one theory is that dante evolves.. but have non of you realised that they don't even look alike? Like it's some else instead. I think it's the fact that the designers didn't care for what the others hade done before them and just wanted to make it their own personal design and just "go nuts".

Edit: And btw, the devil trigger from the first game looks awesome.

That explains it. I was actually going to ask a question relating to that topic. Well, OP, I like the Old Trigger better, to answer your question.

The DMC3 one looks like a pokemon reject. I quite liked the DMC4 one, though I have to agree, the original looks alot more kickass.

Haha I heartily agree with your pokemon reject idea.

Here's a cookie, that made me laugh.

I have never played any of the Devil May Cry games, but I think the first screen shot looks the coolest.

Alternatively we have:

Apologies for the poor quality on the last one, couldn't find a better version sadly. I feel the OPs post was a tad misleading. Both his first and last (DMC2+4 respectively) pictures were in the game engine, or at least, in game graphics style anyway. His DMC3 picture seems to be concept art more than anything else. Late concept art when they're finishing up the design, but concept art nonetheless. Now the picture I linked for that (second spoiler tag) isn't greatly superior, but it is closer to its in game representation.
