What the hell is wrong with games and OS's?!

It just doesn't make sense!!
My computer is a rather crappy school laptop that I got last year and I can't run Fallout 3... Well I used to, now I can't... I've formated everything but still, I can accept that.
I can run Oblivion, before I couldn't. That is ok but wierd.

Now here is the sickest part.
I run Dragon Age 2 Demo almost flawlessly on Medium but barley run Dragon Age Origins on low. I can't play Fable: Lost Chapters, and I can play League of Legends that ends up in 6 fps every 5 mins. I can't run most Valve games either. I can run Warhammer 40k Dawn of War 2 very nicley too.

Soo... This doesn't make sense!! Thats my point actually. Why do OS's and games that run on them have to be so STUPID and HARD to get going!

EDIT: I ordered Dragon Age 2 Signature Edition on PS3. Should I, now that I know that I can run it great on my PC just change it if I can? Or was the demo some kind of trick that doesn't really run the same as the game itself?

I really hope that the demo runs the same as the complete game or else I'm screwd if I change my order.

Any help?

It's not possible to have your pre-order changed without downgrading to the regular version of the game, so I'd recommend that you stick to the PS3-version. (Despite that I'm very much a PC-person myself.)

As for your troubles... I don't know. Laptops, unless made specifically for gaming, can be a bit unpredictable. Could be something like a specific feature not being supported by its GPU, which forces is to in part rely on software rendering (handled by the CPU)... if the games in question even start up at all.

I'm calling the store tomorrow, I have great experiences there and I do hope I can get the signature edition for the PC.
If I don't get the PC ver, I don't think I'm gonna switch it.

Well my understanding of it is DirectX 9 and DirectX 10 are very different things so maybe that is, at least partially, a problem. Vista and Windows 7 are meant to have some weird running issues too.

I can run DA:O on medium but with problems and High for the demo of DA2 so a lot of that could just be optimising and better programming rather than your hardware. The other problems I can't venture any opinions.

You can't change, they were pretty much made to pre-order and that closed January 11th. If you change you're not getting any of the signature edition stuff. No items, no Companion, no soundtrack.

Some games are optimized better than others, some for different hardware, etc. Some graphics cards work differently, and some games are more CPU-dependent. Unfortunately, you partially have to realize that laptops are not very reliable computers for playing games.
My question is, what does this thread have to do with operating systems?
