Hello there guys and gals.
I've been looking for a good game to purchase here lately, and I've come across the Thief series, which looks very promising.
My only question is which one to get? And why?

The first one starts the saga, the second was the best and the third makes a partly decent partly botched ending for it.

Get at least the first two. The second really is the best but to get everything out of it, you need to play the first thief game for the story.

EDIT: The second game has refined gameplay mechanics, more intelligent AI and better mission overall. The third one has a storyline from hell and an eldrich abomination as a final boss. The open city as a nice plus but it wasn't implemented too perfectly. Thi first game, well, is the first, the start of the story and one of the first 'sneak in, no killing' games made.

The difficulty sliders were nice in the first one and if I remember, also on the second one. Gank it up to hard and 'you fail the level if anyone dies' (or sometimes from merely getting rendered uncounscious)is pretty much one standard victory condition...

Thief 1 is the beginning of the story arc, although you won't be totally lost if you play the others first.

Thief 2 is arguably the best gameplay wise, in my opinion.

Thief 3 is the most newbie-friendly, and was my first Thief game.

Thief 1 and 2 are notoriously difficult to run on newer computers, but not impossible. I would try the demos for one of them to make sure it can run. But even if they run poorly, there are solutions if you have the patience to find them.

They're all great games, it just depends on what you're looking for. One more thing you might want to keep in mind is you can probably find 1 and 2 bundled together for a good price, doubling its value.

I see. Sounds good, 1 and 2 it is. (I've never really backed away from a hard challenge anyways.)
Thank you kindly for your help. :)

If we talk grafics and gameplay, which one can you guys recomend?
Thief 3 is the best graphically, obviously (it was made 4 years after the 1st two), but Thief 2 is the best gameplay wise.

But if i chose not to play the first one, does it fuck the gameline compleatly?
You might miss out on a little bit, but it's nothing a quick trip to wikipedia couldn't fill you in on. (Just be wary of spoilers).

However, I think Thief 3 is a bit better on filling in the player about the world than Thief 2 (this is coming from someone who played 3 first), and I don't think it's as bad as everyone says it is.
