What to do with these aliens?

Whether they're squishy things that go "blarg!" or the intelligent hyper-advanced species that we work with to save the galaxy etc. etc. However you put it, aliens are prominent in our fictional work.

Suppose fiction becomes fact, extraterrestrials make contact on earth.

The question is, What do you think we will do if we encountered a peaceful or warlike alien race. What will the government do with them? Would they be accepted into our society or shunned?

Freak the fuck out, that's what we'll do.

We cannot possible conceive what could be out there, what the limits of life are, what would go on in their minds or what kind of motives they would possess. I'm quite sure that any emergency plans made by any government would be pretty much useless, we'll just have to improvise.

Oh and if they're warlike, we'll just scream and die.

I think district 9 is a reasonably good representation of what we'd do with peaceful aliens looking for a home. Independence day (minus will smith saving the earth) is probably what'd happen if hostiles appeared.

If it would be a warlike race, then i guess we'll just get enslaved in one moment.

If they would be peaceful, however, i think that there would be two groups of people: those seeking communication with aliens, and xenophobic dicks who want them off a planet. Second group may have a bit of a head start (60% over 40% or so) - but over time, first group shall grow and prevail. Not all humans are dicks, paradoxically as it may seem.

Depends on the government. The Americans would want to make the first hit count before they can hit us, whether they're friendly or not, ignoring the protocol. Europe would ask them to join them.

I personally think it will be the worst immigration problem ever. A lot of people will turn to aggresion out of fear and lack of understanding. When that happens, we might be in trouble.

I wouldn't mind. I'dd be excited and thrilled, whether to meet an alien, or to blow his head of, HALO style.

How advanced will we be when we contact them?

We will have flying ears, for our minds will have advanced far beyond mere mortal cars.

No one thinks that we would all be better off as slaves of an evil alien empire, than trapped as we are with ecologically destructive international (largely american) decadent capitalism.

Really, humanity is a very agressive species, granted, an individual has selfcontrol, but as the group gets larger, mob mentality takes over, and we became hungry for war. Even if they are agressive, humanity will not go down without a fight.

If we are more advanced or close to them when this happens, we will probably take them down, using whatever excuses you can imagine. "Universal Terrorism", "War on the godless aliens" or "Preventive Universal War" come to mind.

Assuming they do not vaporize us, enslave us, or just generally fuck us over, I'd just treat them as I would anyone else, and maybe try to sleep with them.
