So as a newly turned adult (as of the 23rd), I decided it was time to get myself a personal laptop for student/gaming usage.

Unfortunately, my budget was cut slim at about $600 so finding something with a decent processor and ram was rather difficult until I found what seemed to be a suitable Gateway running an i3 and 4 GB of ram. Not too sure what the graphics/video card is but here is the full specs: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Gateway+-+Laptop+with+Intel%26%23174%3B+Core%26%23153%3B+i3+Processor+-+NightSky+Black/9695393.p?id=1218150610770&skuId=9695393

Anyways, back OT, I'm very unsure at the moment of what exactly are my limitations, but here's a list of "wishes":

-Fallout 3
-Just Cause 2
-Supreme Commander 2
-GTA VI
-Black Prophecy

Please post any comments to these games and feel free to name some good ones (preferably strategy/RPG based) that you believe would run on such a sub-par computer.

Many Thanks Escapists!

Well, on a laptop, gaming can be a bit of a *****. I would know.

However, all the games you mentioned run decent enough to be played on my three year old technology, so I'm sure you'll be fine. Just don't expect full HDR and textures maxed out.

Okay, awesome, I just thought it wouldn't load at all. Any other suggestions that would work decently on an i3 laptop?

I'm a laptop gamer too :D

I'd probably get Just Cause 2, but you can get the first one in a really cheap dual pack (with deus ex 1) for like 10-20 wim wams

Why a laptop?

You could get a comparatively much better desktop for that price? Or you could wait a bit and save until you can buy something goood.
I would know, I just did that.

My husband is using an Acer, he got it for ~$500. He plays Left4Dead2 and Mass Effect on it... (as well as older games like Fallout 1 & 2, Warcraft 3, etc)
It seems to do pretty well.

I had an Acer previously as well, and was happy with it until it got to be (maybe) about a year old. It just stopped realizing that it was plugged in at the same time that the battery went. Replaced the battery... nothing. Replaced the power cord. Nope. I have to replace something inside it, and probably the cost of doing that, I can just get a new laptop. (Considering battery and cord were both $100 each)

So. To sum up, Acer -> Cheap, works, but in the end you get what you pay for.

Well i love gta4 though its somewhat depressing, Fallout 3 is sheer post apocalyptic awesome (sure we fallout1&2 fans love to hate certain aspects of it), and supreme commander is an RTS demigod. On a laptop however i would look into some older games, i have a bunch of stuff like fable,diablo2,warlords and heroes of might and magic installed on mine.
