Some of you may have not noticed this, but there are so many games these days, and so many genres too!
I remember when buying a new video game was getting all your pocket money you earned by chores, and go to the toy store to get a Nintendo game that had a cool looking box.
Now, there is just so many games, there are whole stores devoted to it! Games everywhere.

Now, Most of all the products in such a store have no relevance to me. Either I don't have the system, or I just don't care.

So I wanted to ask, what types of games do you guys actually play?

Myself, I still play mostly on my old NES and also old SNES. (I remember when that thing was BRAND NEW!), and get the latest Mario games on the Wii. I like party games, too, like Super Smash, Mario Kart, and Mario Party. (If you think Mario Party is boring, you are playing it wrong, i.e. sober).

On my computer I mainly play whatever the latest incarnation of the Civilization games is, and for a while I played Planetside.
That's about it, really. I don't like playing alone, nor do I like playing on the internet. It's more fun when friends are within speaking/whining/punching distance.

I'm currently into jrpgs first and fighting games second . I like the fantasy of Jrpgs and the competitive nature of fighting games.

I'm terrible at RTS
wrpgs bore the hell out of me
I can stand sports/racing games
I can't play sandbox games due to lack of interesting story
Platformers no longer exist .
Survival Horror no longer exist
Point and click no longer exist .
I do enjoy a good FPS everyone once in a while . Although i have been burned out because every other game this gen was FPS.
I don't really like Third person shooters.
I'll play a good turn based strategy game when it comes out once in a blue moon.

I mostly play western RPGs and not much else. Started with action RPGs, such as Gothic, Morrowind/Oblivion, The Witcher and so on (later including Risen and Two Worlds), but recently I've been getting into the older western RPGs. Starting with Baldur's Gate and Fallout, and I plan on playing IceWind Dale, Planescape: Torment and Temple of Elemental Evil eventually. Those kinds of games are the vast majority of what I play. Other, non-RPG games I play include Mount & Blade: Warband and Rome: Total War.

There are several old RTS games I enjoy as well, though I haven't played any of them in ages. They include the original Stronghold, Age of Empires and Rise of Nations. My FPS foray is pretty small, mostly consisting of nostalgic titles, such as Delta Force, and.. interesting ones, such as the first F.E.A.R. Not long ago, I had a little childhood nostalgia session, and played two old favourites: Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine, and Shadowman, the latter of which I enjoyed immensely.

That's pretty much about it. I don't play a very large number of games, but the ones I do play I enjoy a lot. Quality over quantity, right?

Edit: Oh, and the Mass Effect trilogy. Don't know how I forgot that. Pretty fun third person shooters with a great storyline. Surprised it wasn't one of the first to pop into my head.

My 3 all time all favourites are probably

RPGs (any western or Japanese or Computer or whatever other labels you want to give them)
Fighting games (ala Street Fighter, Soul Calibur, KOF, Persona 4 Arena etc)
Platformers (Mario, Sonic, Sly Cooper etc)

These days I dont have as much time so I rarely play RPGs anymore unfortunately and there arent as many platformers so I usually end up playing fighting games more than anything else especially as there have been some amazing entries in the genre this generation.

I will give most games a try but I very rarely play sports games, racing games or RTS . Most open world type games leave me cold they just feel empty and stale with the Elder Scrolls games being the only exception I can think of while I am pretty tired of FPS games so dont play them much now.

I am also quite fond of action games such as Metal Gear Rising, Bayonetta, Tomb Raider (reboot), Uncharted 2 and 3(didnt like the first one though) and the like.

Games with strong visuals and themes can attract me such as Okami and Journey I like strong art design in my games usually.

Overall I like games that provide a great experience and in the case of fighting games I like that I can practice for a little bit at a time and get better figuring out new combos and setups etc even though I am not majorly competitive.

I basically play nothing but League, BlazBlue and now Persona 4 Arena. In which i'm being a hipster who plays Shadow Labrys online. Y'know the character nobody else uses?

Shabrys is ridiculously fun. She has such great voice acting and Asterius has some cheap ass moves :D

They removed purple throws in P4A. Thanks ArcSys, you've realised that being able to randomly throw reset someone when you're already comboing them is stupid. Good job.

Actually i'm playing a lot of Nocturne in League now... I probably have a thing for ridiculously evil characters. I even have Reaper Nocturne for the most terrifying ult sounds ever.

Not in genres, but more-or-less chronologically, starting last September:

I do:

the Black Mesa HalfLife overhaul (the last FPS I played)
SpecOps (ok, yes interesting, but meh+)
Guild Wars 2 (and lots of it. Total obsession that eventually died from one day to the other)
Skyrim (in small doses after a longish hiatus. not ever going to finish)
The Walking Dead (leading to -> )
Nothing (yeah, about a month of practically no gaming at all)
Fallout New Vegas (see Skyrim - think I had my fair share of Bethesda-style open world. I like(d) it a lot, but it's become tedious)
Mark of the Ninja (!!!)
Trials Evolution GE (these days since mid-march, my love. Fuck story arcs, characters, dialogue - here's to you, Fun!)
Throw in Minecraft, some Fez lately, occasional MP-Battlefield.
I'll get FarCry when it's on sale and I'm looking forward to the new Company of Heroes. Also about to reinstall Dwarf Fortress.
edit: oh, I also have a fondness for simulation games (whether it's IL-2 or SimCity), but I'm unaware of anything that could take my fancy these days.

I don't:

JRPGs (never played one)
MOMAs (see above. smells unappealing)
Fighters (Uh, I liked Tekken3?)
Sports (FIFA with friends might work)
Turn-based strategy aka Civilisation series. (I want to build, not wait)

You get the idea...

A Hermit's Cave
I tend to go through phases, thusly:

WRPG's
FPS's
Action-Adventures
RTS's

I generally suck at gaming as a rule, so when I'm playing especially shit, I'll move on to a different genre until I get pissed with my own suckiness that necessitates another move onwards... ¬_¬

I play a little bit of everything at this juncture tbh.

My big ones atm are Planetside 2, LoL and Empire Total War.

Ones I have lines up to play are things like Spec Op The Line and Dishonoured.

I love a good point and click now and then and story driven games are a must. Im also heavily invested in Star Citizen and Starlight Inception, up and coming space sims. As well as a plethora of other crowd-funded games of varying genres

The only thing I DONT really play are Modern shooters. I feel things like BF and MW have just becomes so bland and redone as to be redundant not mentioning that I feel both Activision and EA need a stern kick up[ the posterior so they can re-evaluate their priorities.

I've been mostly playing shooters like CoD:MW3 and Rainbow Six Vegas 2 recently. Though for a while I was playing New Vegas, but I'm giving it a bit of an extended brake right now.

WRPGs, shooters and sandbox games mostly, with a few RTSes and turn-based strategies thrown in for flavour. Never really got into any of the other genres, though I have been known to branch out on occasion.

First person shooters are my favorite genre, but not necessarily war first person shooters. I like it when a FPS gets creative with its formula, like Dishonored or the Fallout games. I suppose most games with a first person perspective, though I understand that not every game would be playable with one.

Other than that I enjoy a good racing game, RPG, and simulation (mainly the Sims games)

I have a great distaste for MMOs and RTS games. Just bore me.

Yes, they do! Well, 3D platformers are practically dead (if someone can prove me wrong, I'll be very happy), but there are tons of point 'n' click games coming out and we're being inundated with horror games. They're just all indies.

OT: I play most genres, really. I probably like horror games, adventure games, RPGs (both kinds), turn based tactics/strategy and scrolling shooters above all else. I play a lot of FPS and TPS games, but I can rarely play them for hours on end; they're not really a favourite genre of mine.

I play JRPGs mostly.

Sometimes I'll play a platformer, especially Mario. I want to get Cave Story for the 3DS.

I'll probably begin playing some Nintendo first party titles (Never had a Nintendo console). I liked the Zeldas I played, and also Kirby. Pokemon I never enjoyed. It's like a downgrade to other JRPGs.

I used to play some FPS. My favourite is TimeSplitter, Future Perfect.

I used to play GTA. I love Vice City, was bored in San Andreas and GTA V.

It boils down to basically just WRPGs and Paradox grand strategy games now, with more time leaning towards the latter category. As my free time has dwindled, I've started looking for something which I can start up and put down at leisure without it being a massive time commitment per playing session, which weights the scales against massive immersion-heavy RPGs like Skyrim.

Also, I've been having a tonne of fun with Far Cry 3. It has a few design flaws, but is mostly pretty great. Now if someone could make a cross between Fallout 3/NV and Far Cry 3... just overlay the capture-the-flag gameplay over a static map of unique areas.

At this very moment, Sanitarium and the Prince of Persia: Sands of Time trilogy (Warrior Within right now).

Generally, I usually have a RPG and some FPS or action game installed and alternate between the two depending on the mood. I also prefer older games to newer ones, SP only (Yahtzee-style), preferably with an interesting story. Lately, I´ve been trying out adventures as well (e.g Sanitarium or Dreamfall). I´ve also played a bit of StarCraft II but I suck too much :)

Other games I´ve enjoyed lately: Metro 2033, BioShock, Portal 1+2, The Witcher, Clive Barker´s Undying or SpaceChem.

I wouldn't say Pint and Click no longer exist, since didn't telltale do a monkey island game a few years back? Yeah they are nearly gone, but not quite.

And some sandbox games have a good story (infamous comes to mind), though I guess when it comes to what constitutes an interesting story its a bit subjective.

As for my personal interests, I enjoy an FPS here and there, as well as a TPS (Gears 3 survival is a riot with the right people, preferably in the same room. If only there was 4 player local multiplayer); I love me some RTS, though good ones have been a bit hard to come by recently (partially due to a limited budget, partially due to I don't know where to look to find new good ones. That and I just want Battle For Middle Earth 2 again, but disk 1 and ONLY DISK 1 is scratched); I adore a good WRPG, though JRPGs are hit or miss with me (particularly ones with turn-based combat systems. They just bore me in most videogames); some fighting games are fun, but I never got very good at them and the learning curve for how to beat actual people is steep and not very fun, which kinda defeats the point of playing a game in the first place; Mario sports games are fun, but regular sports games are very meh, and make me wonder why I dont just find some people and play a pickup game of the actual sport; and that's about it.

Special mention to Saint's Row the Third, because despite the silliness starting on 11 and just going higher from there, the dialogue of the people, and the subtle but significant ways that they change with the 6 different voices (male/female. Zombie doesn't count because he isn't actually talking), as well as the tight controls, smooth gameplay, and just batshit insanity of the things you can pull with such casualness is just fun as shit.

I play mostly WRPGS, but currently I very much enjoy RTS and MOBA style gameplay. Also, grand strategy games, and tactical simulations are a thing that I like, but nobody from my friends likes those that much.

Atm... Dota 2, very rare game of LoL-Singapore if friends want to go for a round...

Other than that no regular games. AAA-titles like Tomb Raider and Bioshock or just random games I want to (re)play. I have very little game loyalty and a short attention span.
