Noted - mind you, I still saw reason to defend the fact that other people have right to their beliefs.

I am aware of this and was mostly making a joke on the common stereotype that philosophy majors can't find any work out of college.

That being said, I am the first to advocate that its a poor thing to measure philosophy just by its more practical uses.

I'm glad to see someone who actually likes and follows Kant's rigid morality. In today's world where relativism seems popular, its rare to see one willing to take up anything resembling the discipline required to uphold the categorical imperative.

Haha, I never said it was practical for employment. But in some cases- philosophy could possibly help you make some important career decisions, and in some cases- even social savvy in important business decisions (probably more indirectly as a result of studying philosophy).

Mind you - Kant's morality and ethics may SEEM rigid, but there are ways to work around instances where the categorical imperative can conflict between moral decisions and moral outcomes - and thus might fall on its own blade if followed too literally with no critical thought. It's not philosophy if you just know what to remember, but how to bend it and set new standards in our ever-evolving civilisation.

Which brings me to my point - philosophy can foster social savvy if studied carefully

Well, since I'm in Highschool, I'm arguably not learning anything useful...

I'm probably missing a few things, but I am a fairly decent 3D modeler with rhino, pro-e, and solidworks, and I'm learning to project manage. I also kind of know Spanish.

I'm also learning German and attempting to learn Japanese.

Those two shall come in handy, I believe.

Learning how to write well is always admirable - if you can move people with words, you can very well move the world.

Well, also depends on what you mean by 'how to write better'.

I learned to sew a couple years back and now have a home business where I take orders from people all around the world for unique hand made items like clothing and stuffed toys.

I'm a tailor who's known for very geeky items.

Right now I'm designing a Toothless hat (how to train your dragon) for a girl in the United Kingdom.

I'm glad to see another sewing enthusiast here. I sew and quilt. I'm working on making my husband a Dr. Horrible costume for Comic Con. I've never made my own pattern for clothing before and it is challenging. Fun, but challenging. (I have designed and sewn purses and stuffed animals but that does not compare to making clothing.)

I also knit and crochet and I can repair computers.

Yep, I'm totally good at this whole writing thing.

But seriously, I still think I'm improving with every serious review, and hope to eventually become what I would call "good". At this point, I consider my writing to be mediocre, at best.

I'm learning to program! C and C++ currently, and expanding on my JavaScript knowledge.

I'm also learning how to use Photoshop.

That's about it, though. My skills at playing mallet percussion, chemistry, and mathematics I'm kinda neglecting for this major, but oh well.

Self-defense techniques (IKMF certified)
Stitching, cooking, sailing, basic electronic and mechanical repairs, basic carpentry,...

Nothing too marketable besides med stuff but enough to get around

I'm struggling to become fluent in Japanese, so I'll say that's the skill that I'm learning.
I already know how to bake cinnamon rolls (As most people should), so that's the most useful skill that I have aside from measuring magnetism.
