The ones that come to mind are: John Logie Baird; the television, Alexander Graham Bell; the telephone, Alexander Fleming; penicillin, insulin, the bicycle and radar. Also, if sports count, Golf.

Yeah, Scotland's done quite a bit for the world.

The blowtorch. Swedes made fire cool.

Dynamite. Yeah. We revulotionized the art of blowing shit up.
No more losing your fingers handling nitroglycerine.

Julmust. Only the most awesomely delicious soda ever. I was originally gonna berate you guys for not heaping us with praise for this one, but then I remembered that we deemed you unworthy to partake of it.
Sorry 'bout that.

The Tetrapack. Yeah. If it weren't for us, you'd still be drinking your milk from glass bottles, plastic bags and holes in the ground like common barbarians.

The three-point-belt.
You know that thing on the seatbelt that keeps your spine from breaking, your gust from getting crushed and your head from cracking open against the dashboard when you get into a fenderbender?
Yeah, that was us. You might well be alive right now because of us.
You're welcome.

Well Australia we have a very long and respectful line of inventions.
Stating with the no jump start plow which wasnt so much invented, as a guy ran his plow over a rock it broke a few bits and for some reason it wouldnt jump up every time he hit a rock from then on in. Which apparently was a huge innovation.
Then nothing really got invented for a while until we made THE FAKE MOTORCADE that was able to slip past 160 MILLION DOLLARS (USD)of security. And get within 30 meters of George Bush's Hotel. See here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TdnAaQ0n5-8 . Then we invented a very popular invention that was a huge hit in the Vatican. See here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dAHH8GmgPrk .
So really what have we made in our rich 200 year old history? Basically the best comedy group ever. Tip of the hat Chasers!!!

Pretty simple, what invention, world changing, trivial, what-have-you, was invented in the country you call home?

I'll go first.

America- Airplane, Machinegun, bifocals, tumbler lock (I believe), and the telephone.

EDIT: LISTS DON'T COUNT SLACKERS!!!
germany invented the machinegun during the first world war

Canada - Winter tires
I think Larenzo is probably referring to the Gatling gun, which was one of the first "machine guns" (meaning it used mechanized parts) which was also first utilized during the American Civil War. However, in reality this was not the first machine gun, but simply the first gatling gun; a term now ubiquitous with rapid fire, rotating barrel machine guns. As I said in an earlier post, the problem with these threads is that everyone invented any particular thing "first", the only difference being effectiveness, variations, and legacy.
Actually I was refering to the maxim machinegun, invented by Hiram Maxim, an American gunsmith, I am almost 100% sure that it was the first true machine gun, however I'm not an expert on these things.

psst.. Germany invented fully automatic firearms.

CANADA : Basketball
I believe you are referring to the Mauser pistol, I do believe that was invented before the Maxim machinegun, but I think defining it as a machinegun might not be totally accurate.

The very first burglar alarm was invented right here in Denmark.
Irony wills it, however, that it was also stolen.

And if nothing else, we did help create the nuclear bomb.

We also invented handball.

And LEGO.

And red sausages.

And the concept of the consistency of the universe (or something).

And the danish pastry.

And viagra for women.

And the femidom, a condom for women.

And the magnetic wire recorder.

And the pH scale.

And telegraphy.

And the triplane.

And the aqua-wall (an indoor waterfall).

The list probably goes on and on.
