Age of Empires 2 I was never good at strategy games so the only way I could have fun in it was to not have to worry about resources and just focus on building armies.

Define cheats.

The first game I used cheats messed with debug mode on was Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire. It also happens to be my first game ever (OK, technically it wasn't, my cousin gave me her NES with about 10 games about a year before, but then I saw the N64 in BestBuy and my jaw dropped. Literally. I was standing there staring at its epicness and some high school kid who was there let me play for a half hour. Then my parents dragged me away and my grandfather bought me the system and a game of my choice a week later. Good times.).

Hamlet: The Video Game.

Am I close?
Not even, but your answer did make me laugh so you earn praise anyway.

Hard to say, but I think it was Bugs Bunny; Lost in Time. Played it around the same time we got internet at home, so I wouldn't know how to cheat before that at least.

GTA: Vice City was the first game where I abused cheating however. Never bought a single gun in that game, and I never outran the cops. Just a few buttonmashes(which I still remember how to pull off, in spite of being like 8 years since I played it) and I was good to go!

I remember seeing this in Nintendo Power. Is it Turok 64?
Ding ding ding! Ladies and gents we have a WINNER! Yes indeed, "nthgthdgdcrtdtrk" is the Big Cheat for Turok 64, offering such classic cheating options such as all weapons, unlimited ammo and lives, infinite health, disco mode, big head mode, full map, and the ability to warp to any level in the game at will, including all of the boss battles. I LOVED that game.

Pokemon Red Missingno. But since thats less of a cheat and more of a glitch It'd have to be Quake: God mode and no-clipping.

I don't think I've used cheats in that many games, walkthroughs yeh, but not cheats.

I think I first cheated on Vampires the Masquerade, but I don't remember why.
Apart from that ummm, Fallout 3, Fallout NV, and umm... I don't think I've cheated on that many other games...

Though I do remember learning hexidecimals to cheat for some reason... it was all so long ago!

The Sacred Armor of Antiriad (Spectrum ZX48). An ancient platformer, where a mulleted native hero saves his tribe from alien invasion.

The cheat was published in the Your Sinclair magazine. It gave you infinite hitpoints. To make it work, you had to write a little Spectrum Basic program that loads the game data, flips a few bytes with POKE commands, then executes the game.

I wanted to complete the game to see the ending without spending weeks trying and failing. It was a bit of a downer because all you got was some short scrolling text explaining that you have now saved the world.
