What Was Under Those Japanese Bayonetta Ads?

As much as I like Platinum, because they used to be clover (Okami, Viewtiful Joe, God Hand). But I HATE when games use sex as there primary selling point. It may be effective, but now when I get the game I'll feel like a douche. It's very patronizing, like there saying "we know you'll buy anything with a hot chick on the cover, so we don't have to make the game any good". The game may be good, but thats the kinda message that I get from adds like this.

To put it another way this doesn't want to make me buy it more it makes me want to buy it less.

40/40 in Famitsu, only the twelfth (or thirteenth?) game to do that. Our own Jordan Deam played it at E3 and said it compared favorably to God of War III.

So... make of that what you will.
Obligatory FF12 got a 40/40 score too comment. Japanese scoring is done a little differently to what is the norm in the West but still the score is a nice sign. The team behind the game is an other good sign too. I am mostly curious how the action holds up in the more frantic scenes as a lot seems to be happening at once in the trailers.
Obligatory "I loved that game" comment to your obligatory FF12 comment.

Any game that needs sexual ads to sell itself is probably going to be shitty.
You mean every game right? It is just that some companies are terrible at the sexual ads. But they totally try.

Remember having that I bar on tetris sliding nice and deep into the gap between the [] [][] blocks? Man that was one of the dirtiest games of my childhood.

It might be worth knowing what those perfect marks were.

1. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
2. Soulcalibur
3. Vagrant Story
4. The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker
5. Nintendogs
6. Final Fantasy XII
7. Super Smash Bros. Brawl
8. Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots
9. 428: Fūsa Sareta Shibuya de
10. Dragon Quest IX
11. Monster Hunter Tri
12. Bayonetta

Famitsu's idea of a perfect game seems a bit open to interpretation, I'm not sure their opinion of perfect translates well over to western players. Although their 39/38 scores seem much more consistent.
This game is as good as Nintendogs?

YES.
Brawl got the 40/40 but Melee didn't? :(

What the hell is this world coming to? Brawl had tripping...!@$#!@$ tripping!

God, why did they give her the face of Sarah Palin? That just kills any attempt at hotness.

I heard this game has a one single same button gameplay mode, and that the better the combos the more butt naked she gets, and another thing, just think if that one button mode is true? What would people do with the other hand, hmmmmmm?

How many of those 40/40's have been handed out in the last few years? Famitsu are handing 40's out nowadays like the fliers covering this poster.
Besides the fact that they aren't really "handing them out", "when" 40's come shouldn't really be an issue. Their integrity has pretty much been solid from then till now.

Yeah I have to question some their perfect scores. For example, MGS4, although I've not played it myself, it's no secret that the cutsene to gameplay ratio is extremely disproportioned. Now if it were me rating it, I'd be docking a good 10-15 points for that alone. Of course if I was a game reviewer, I'd never give perfect scores 'cause I believe there's always room for improvement no matter how good something seems; so to get a perfect score out of me the game would have to literally knock my socks off.
Also Ocarina of Time, very good game to be sure, but worthy of a perfect score? Well I wouldn't have given it one. The first flaw that comes to mind with that game is the map, did they have to have the incredibly lengthy explanation on the map EVERY BLOODY DUNGEON.

If only one person took down a flier and read it, it would be more effective than just a banner space, which is what it is now. Not to mention the website coverage it's getting for the weird approach, first to announce it and again after the fliers are gone.

Hey! Look at this chick! Maybe if you look long enough, you won't notice how boring our game is!

I never played Heavenly Blade, but all of these types of games are the same

I just can't find Bayonetta attractive. It's something about her outfit. It just squeezes too much, like she's a tightly wrapped ham, and then those chunky shoes- ugh.

...Hey wow, I guess guys DO care about shoes... ..er, exscuse me while I make sure my 'stuff' is still there.

This is not really a good attitude to have when reviewing games.

Perfect score doesn't mean perfect game. The idea of a perfect game is ludicrous. 40/40 doesn't mean there's no no room for improvement, it just means that the game is one of THE BEST games around. And refusing to give out 40/40 just makes 39/40 the new perfect. But you can never give out 39/40 because there's always room for improvement. So 38/40 becomes the new perfect.

And you can't dock points from MGS4 for having long cutscenes. Firstly, arbitrarily docking points is not really a fair and balanced way to review. Secondly, it's MGS, THATS THE POINT. People go into that game expecting cutscenes, you can't dock it for having them. As another example: Gamespot gave Radiant Dawn 6/10 saying that it would only appeal to strategy purists and that it was best left alone by the rest of us. Gamespy got a strategy purist to review it, gave it 4.5/5 + Editors Choice, with the caveat that it was very much for the strategy fans.

It's like marking a book down for not having moving pictures. Or the radio for no bullet time. You review on what it's trying to be.

Am I the only one who's noticed in the second picture she either looks like she has a tail or wildly unattended, um...hair of the pubis. Ahh Japan. Occasionally I almost wish I lived there...almost.
This just proves, sex sells.

it may not be an effective ad campaign but at least the PR department for this game is actually thinking of something new to do! Props to them and the Team behind Dante's Inferno with their ridiculous antics XD

I have to say, it's more tasteful than say X Blades. She actually looks human, nice proportion too....

EDIT: OH Right, it's made of her hair. I retract my last statement. Kind of. Partly...
