Funny thing is I loved Conflict: desert Storm 2 but it was rated T for Teen in America when I played it. My first M rated game was Halo 2.

Well, since Diablo 1 on the PC is rated M+, I'd say Diablo. Age, Uuuh, 5? My mom also let me watch her play Leisure Suit Larry games around that age.

May be why I am perverted, but you don't see me clicking cows all day.

None. The only rating that's 18+ in the ESRB is AO and that isn't stocked hardly anywhere.

Alright, I'll play along, although I will point out that M is 17+...

Technically it was Halo 2, but I only played it for half an hour or so, so I'll go with the first one I owned instead.

Fable TLC
Age at time: 10
Not that bad imo, the violence only gets strong when you get a head shot with a bow and aside from that it's mainly mild language. It's also interesting to note that Fable 2 was the game that made me get around to finally picking up a 360. I think that the Fable series will always hold a special place in my heart, no matter how much Molyneux milks it. (Dear god, could I have worded that any more cheesily)

Wow. I've only just noticed that ps1 games have ratings. I remember the good old days when anyone of any age could walk into a game store and buy any game they wished.

OT: Probably a ps1 game but I'm too lazy to look through all their ratings so I'm going to go with red ninja on the xbox.
I would've been about 10/11.

It's pretty violent all right. You could chop off peoples heads and a fountain of blood would spray out. You could also chop off their feet and they'd crawl a bit before dieing.

One more thing to all the people saying halo. In my country they're all 16's except I think halo 2 is only a 15. So they don't count for me.

First game I played that later got an ESRB rating was Doom, which during it's re-releases has gotten an M. I was 9 at the time I first played it, and at that point the ESRB didn't exist, but I would say it would've gotten an M rating if they did. The first game I played that probably would've gotten an M rating was Curse of the Catacombs, I think I was 7 when I played it, but the ESRB wasn't around and it wasn't re-released on any other console so it was never rated. I think the first game I ever played that had a rating was Wolfenstein 3-D, which was rated PC-13 for "Profound Carnage" by Id/Apogee. But damn I still love Doom.

Resident Evil 3. My sister made it funny for me though because she said the Nemesis was actually a grumpy Librarian who was chasing down the policemen for late fines. Never explained why he had half a face and tentacles though...

Umm I think my first 18+ game was either a game called Legend or MGS 1 on the ps one. Legend had the regular fighting of monsters and such to progress whilst MGS 1 had shooting people and some blood splatters. Oh and it also read my memory card.

It was new for me (me as a girl). BTW. I was 13... I remember... It was raining... Daark...I held the knife in my hand...
That's so romantic - it was my first not-girly game :))

Well i live in Australia, so we don't have "18+" games here, but my first game that warranted an adult rating over the pond, was Assassins Creed, when I was 15.

Wolf 3D, Doom, Doom II, Rise of the Triad, Duke Nuk'em 3D......

I cannot remember the sequence those came out, but I played them all as a young'n. Of course, these were not the most realistic depictions of violence. If I had played Postal 2 or something at that age, I could have become a serial killer. I dunno.

I live in Australia and we don't have 18+. But the first MA 15+ game I played was Dino Crisis 2 for the PS1 at age 5.

Star Wars Jedi Knight: Dark Forces 2 for Windows 98. Still my favorite shooter of all time, with Dead Space coming a close second. Bioshock is basically a HD version of Jedi Knight with System Shock elements thrown in. Of course, Jedi Knight IS the sequel to a LucasArts ripoff of Doom named Dark Forces, but it's still awesome and innovative. If you have a PC that can play it or you can find one of the rare DreamCast ports, PLAY THIS GAME. You don't even have to be a Star Wars fan. Because Kyle Katarn is epic.

So Australians are chiming in with "Well WE don't HAVE an 18+ rating, so here's a pretty mild game for ya" instead of noticing the topic is outside their experience. Original poster, please put up an "Are you from Australia?" poll so they don't have to post this five times a page like a really stale TL;DR. It's like going to a Star Trek convention dressed as Nixon. It's irrelevant, and was only interesting the first twenty times.

EDIT: Fascinating. Turns out some games rated M here are rated 15 over there? I hate censorship, but now I pity Australia's gamers less. And still want California to go stuff it.

One of the GTA games I suppose? Don't really know, never gave a shit about what rating a game has, never had any effect on me or what games I played, I look at the game itself, not a magic number on the cover.
