What were your 'phases'?

Looking at a really old thread (and I mean really old) from an article last year about obssessions, it got me thinking about phases that people go through where they're obssessed by something. For example, my younger brother a while ago had a 'wrestling' phase, where he would basically try and watch every wrestling show on TV, play every wrestling game he could get his mitts on, and try out wrestling moves on me, a brother 2 years older than him. It was annoying, to say the least.

The point is, I was wondering what different phases and obssessions other people have gone through, periods where they've been interested in something that doesn't fit in with their normal interests and hobbies. I myself have recently had this occur, after seeing a theatre performance of Dracula at my university and reading Twilight in the same week, I have had a fascination ever since (about 3 months) with the macabre and the supernatural, vampires in particular. The macabre side of things was sort of enhanced when I read a review of American McGee's Alice a while ago.

So tell your thoughts and obssessions, we'd like to know what your 'phases' were (and please don't think too badly of me for reading Twilight, I'd only just heard of it at that time and hadn't read the reviews of the book or film... :s).

Yeah, after hearing about Hellsing and Elfen Lied (on this site, incidentally), I'm sort of moving on a bit. However, they sort of fit in with my own supernatural/horror/macabre/vampire/crazyness thing to some extent. I really do have a messed up mind, I think...

I wasn't influenced by anything really out of my own wants and feelings to promote an anime phase. I am forcing myself into it. just so when I say anime can go suck a big one I have justification. Oh yeah, and yuri is fucking awesome.

I guess it's kind of ironic that you're posting this on an internet forum (which isn't entirely the most social place...) :D (jk)

I find myself in a "the world sucks but I don't give a crap" phase. It's OK.

I find that I listen to music in phases, usually lasting a week or two long before I move from one band that I listen to over and over to a different one. These themselves loop as well, I've had about 2 Led Zeppelin phases in the past year.

That said, the music I jump between generally doesn't have much to do with each other. My last three phases were Elliot Smith (Acoustic folk rock) -> The Strokes (Modern high energy garage rock) -> Rage Against the Machine (Hard rock/rap).

In terms of overall "personality phases", I haven't really changed that much over my life. I've always been the athletic funny man of the group, and I probably always will be.

Haha I feel like socializing, it's not that I AM. I still have to force my lazy ass out to actually interact.
Lol, yeah, I feel the same to be honest. Again somewhat ironically, my flatmates all went clubbing tonight and the only reason I didn't go drinking with them was because I have a 9 o'clock lecture tomorrow morning and can't really risk a hangover. I've missed too many lectures to afford another one...

Phases... in grade 5 myself and my friends became obsessed with James Bond (largely thanks to Goldeneye on the 64), then it was pokemon and pokemon cards in year 6, then myself and my cousins went into a three-year obsession with starcraft around year 8... Yeah a lot of my phases have involved video games to some degree.

My phases change like the seasons, and I am not ashamed to say I have been threw every sterotypical Clique, including Jock and Emo(Goth for the P.C.) but a few things have always stayed constant for me, Hip-Hop, and cooking, though the sub-genre that I listen to has changed drastically. Though the phase I am currently in is my drifter stage, I usually go threw this time period looking for new people to hang out with.

I am going through a goth phase at the moment. Well it has been going on for ages. I always loved the dark and macabre then i had a bit of a Manson (mallgoth i know) phase although i would never follow the fashion associate and then i got into The Cure which led me onto the origional goth scene and i am especially a fan of the ethernal stuff. I still do nto follow the fashions except for the hair slightly.

Hmm, I went through a Pokemon phase in Year 5-6 (that is around ages 9-10 for non-Brits), then switched to Yu-Gi-Oh for a while. I still have all my old Yu-Gi-Oh cards stuffed somewhere in my bedroom back home, tried selling them at a collectables shop but they wouldn't take them. They're happy to sell, but not to buy, and it's supposed to be run by nerds too...

Actually, Emo and Goth are two different stereotypes, at least here in the UK. My brother's going through a Greebo phase (no, I don't know what that is either), which is apparently different again. He also hates 'Scene Kids' because they dance funny...

I had a pretty introverted phase a while back, now I am a more social version of my usual, lazy, jackass self. I'm starting to get really pissed off with stupid people, as ever since I've been in high school they have just become more and more numerous...Meh, what are you gonna do...

The thing which was weird about the way myself and my cousins treated pokemon cards is that we never collected them like everyone else seemed too, we actually played the game that came with them. When they were popular our entire family (aunts uncles, cousins, grandparents) went on a massive three month trip through the US and Canada, and prettymuch the main memories we bought back as kids from that trip is playing the pokemon card game on trains and planes. So much for that trip...

Sorry, but that's not emo music.
