Modern Warfare 8 would still make millions of dollar and we still wouldn't get Half Life 2: Episode 3.

I don't know, but if things continue the way they are I don't think I'll still be playing games in 5 years. At least not new ones anyway.
I doubt that spunklegargleweewees will ever fail as bad as you say. The last fad was isometric rpgs and look at project eternity. granted isometric rpgs are better than spunklegargleweewees.TheKasp said:

All platforms will have been locked down and PC gaming costs will rise thanks to both hardware and software manufacturers trying as hard as they can to force customers into buying from them, and buying from them often.
Mobile gaming will have started to deteriorate in popularity as everyone will have gotten used to it, and not be so into "OMG, I can play this awesome game on my phone" - they'll already have enough awesome games on their phone and won't need to buy more.
Free to play will be on the rise, however extortionate methods will be used by some games that quickly lose popularity.

WoW will start closing servers after finally losing a decent amount of its subscription base to the rising number of F2P MMOs. It will still be alive for years to come, however.

I can't really say for sure. There are dozens of different possibilities, some good, some not-so good. It is impossible to tell which will come into play, atm. Whatever the case may be, it will definitely be interesting to watch. Personally, I think the future will be a bright one. There is more variety than ever, many genres that were thought long dead are returning, gaming is slowly but steadily growing more inclusive and sophisticated, stories and storytelling is improving, games criticism is slowly getting better, and the audience for games as a whole is only going to grow larger. I can't wait to see how everything turns out. 
It'll be really shit and made up of nothing but generic examples of X genre and developers will only care about graphics and not story or gameplay. Not like the glorious golden age of now, not at all.

You'll have to pay seperately to start playing the multiplayer for most games, just after paying seperately to load up the game. And before that you'll now have to give blood samples and a copy of your birth certificate so certain dip shit company's will alow you to log online.
Nintendo will have just released a new console that comes with it's own screen, the Wii noUsuck, and because they prefer you to experience their games on that screen you won't have the option to use your bigger TV at home. The new controls that comes with it will have the joysticks on the back of the controller directly behind the screens on the front.
All motion controls will be as buggy as ever and mainly designed for small dumb games at full price, Yahtzee would have torn apart another SGWW, and graphics over all will have improved a lot but the costs to finance them also went through the roof so no developer working on AAA games will be allowed to be different in any way.

5 years later if United: Companies will be more likely to hear us (the fans) out, there will be lass bad PR for games, more variety/innovation and less spunklegargleweewees, DLC worked on after a games release, single player games in which the devs focus on polishing the SINGLE PLAYER to be longer, better, and more praised, then the tacked on multiplayer mode, and companies like Capcom and EA will go bankrupt if they use corrupt tactics that are 5 years old and aren't tolerated.
5 years later if we remain Divided: Digital distribution will be a main source to purchase games, hard copies will be a lot harder to come by, games will be owned by companies even after the consumer made a purchase, DLC will continue to be an abused system, spunklegargleweewees will continue to dominate, forums will be like children arguing on the playground, media will continue to slander our community, games will be short, cost 60$+ dollars new, and the rest of the locked content must be purchased, and EA will still be alive.
Soooo yeah, I think it all comes down to us. No pressure guys...

gaming scene isnt going to drastically change in 5 years. i will be playing some great older games on my cheap ps3 which i would have bought for $99 new.
on my pc i would be.playing latest iterations of existing games.
