Come up with a hypothetical object to replace the telephone and/or cellphone.
It must:

A. Be at least roughly based on the foreseeable progression of current technology. (IE: A cybernetic brain implant that allows you to communicate through thought transmissions.)

B. Be a completely new communication device and not some variation of the phone.(IE: smartphone, vid-phone, etc.)

nothing will replace the telephone.. There will be alternatives.. but the telephone is a vital fixture to modern life.

Ummm.... more phones?

I don't see the phone or any modern form of it disappearing soon.

Telepathic mind chat... phone sex will reach a whole new level. Yes , yes I should be institutionalized.
Good, But how?
There is research going into making a laptop connected to the mind so that one may talk on a laptop if they are paralyzed. Turn laptop to phone and there you go?

So was the quill. The guy who invented the ballpoint pen was called a maniac. The same was said about the inventors of television, cellphones and the Internet!

That makes a lot of sense. Let's hope someone does it soon.

This.

Maybe it will be implanted into your head, maybe it will be attached to your shirt and you'll smack it to talk to the ship, but until environmentalists grab the reigns of society and systematically eliminate all forms of electrical production (solar power panels will soon be found to blind migrating birds) we're stuck with the horrors of the phone for the forseeable and unforseeable future.

Ive been turning off my phone when I am not talking on it. Let me tell you, it makes me so much happier to not be CONSTANTLY AVAILABLE

His fellow townsfolk and Jerry the invisible squirrel...maybe it wasn't related to the pens.

Did you see the movie "demolition man", thats how it will be with the sex in the future.
I haven't seen it, do you recommend it? Does it have anything to do with the song "Demolition Man" by the Police? becuase that was a good song.

I don't think anything will replace the phone, short of telepathy.

I mean, we'll always call it a phone, in the same way we'll still call flying cars "Cars", most likely.

The communicators from Star Trek are more an evolution of the walkie-talkie rather than the phone

But you wouldn't call a teleporter a car. Its a completely different mode of transportation. Your thinking on the wrong wavelength.
