Edit: Crap, I thought I had not posted.

PC gaming would kinda suck without Valve, despite my reservations.

The same to me - I don't use Steam and I've never played a Valve game.
You'll be sayin' wow every time you use this towel.

Valve games are not as incredible as everyone makes them out to be.
And Steam is not the end-all-be-all perfect method of buying games.
Wait so I am not alone!? I thought I was the only person on this site that did not bow down at valves feet.
But the feet are so clean, and they smell nice. Just kidding, but yeah. Give them a try. Not gotta love them, but please. Try them.... TRY THEM.... TRRRRYYY THEEEMMMMMMM!!!!!

You are not alone, man. We can fight the power together... Er, I mean, Half-Life 2 is the greatest game ever and all other games suck! GO VALVE!

I did try them. I have a steam account and I have play all 7 of Valves games and thought they were fun but not FUN. They were all "meh" to me, just pure overratedness.

Lets see:

Half life series was OK, I did like the first one more than 2. Over all they were not revolutionary as people claim they are...well not in my books

Counter Strike is addictive and fun but standard FPS. It's addictive because of its standardness

Day of defeat I fucking HATE

Left 4 Dead....Yea know I can just play CS zombie mod and save myself 50 bucks

Team Fortress...ok it's fun I will admit but I have other FPS's I enjoy more.

Portal...yea burn me for not caring about portal much

I really can't imagine. I love steam so much, giving me all my games where ever I go all I need is an internet connection. And no Half-Life would be a bummer, but I guess I would gain a few days of my life with no TF2. I probably wouldn't have bought half the games I have on steam right now because steam can offer some incredible deals that are impossible to ignore.

And Max, I would highly recommend giving Valve a shot. They definitely create some of the best fps games to date. If you ever feel like something a little different, you should look into a Half Life, or portal. If nothing else, get a Valve game for the source engine and find a good free mod. There is a reason a good chunk of this board are Valve fanboys.

now, heres an interesting thought. lets just say there WAS no valve. if that were the case, there would be nothing to be upset about cause it would have never existed in the first place, let alone this Thread/Discussion.

Without valve storytelling in games would still be in the dark ages, at least in the fps genre. Up until Half-Life fps's were basically devoid of story, and HL managed to implement an awesome story without breaking immersion once. Without CS I doubt eSports would be where it is today, though SC would still be going strong. Steam = <3, Portal/HL = Innovation, valve has it all really.

I think CoD and shooters in general wouldn't be as popular or as good today without half life and the goldsrc & source engines.

the world would be much the same. A company identical to valve would take on every single aspect of it in this world, the only difference being the name. Or something like that...

Yes indeed. My life would be very different without valve. (I missed a party to play TF2 with like 9 of my nerd friends) Do I regret it? Well, yes. =(

The PC elititsts would probably not have started up as there is no-one there to blow smoke up their asses and make them think their way is any better.
The whole post you made assumes years before 1995 don't exist. Hell, I'd say all of your posts do.

If you want to computer elitism through the ages, go search for the Amiga - Atari ST war.

It is, at current, the best method of online distribution when it comes to PC games. Impulse is nice but the game collection is sort of crappy, D2D has its own problems.

Well I have only played L4D and Portal and think that Steam is a steaming pile of shit. So it would not have any effect on me.
Explain why you think Steam sucks. Obviously it's kinda dumb that an internet connection is necessary to play an offline game but apart from that I think it's a good system.

Also, try Valve's other offerings. They're quite good, at least in my opinion.

We would probably all be using Impulse or spending Microsoft Points (which would suck).
And Steam is awesome. Most people that have bought games off of steam know of the amazing sales.
And Half-Life was revolutionary for video gaming. Companies have attempted to copy its story-telling and style for years.
