What would you do If you had to direct a video game based movie?

You've obtained the licence to make any video game into a movie.

what series or game would you base it on and what would you do with the licence? would you try to please the fanboys or would you keep it open for a wide audience? what style would it be?

Is it for you... or for them?

I'd start work on a Halo movie. Then, after endless anticipation, scrap it and make a sci-fi political satire film with very low budget and amazing special effects that turns out to be one of the greatest movies of the decade.

So ironic to me.

Peter Jackson was slated to make a Halo movie, then it fell through, and he became the produce for the FUCKING ORGASMIC District 9.

Is that what you meant? Sorry if I am too dense to pick up on it.

More on topic, I would make a film version of Silent Hill (just using the IP, not an actual plot from one of the games). If I had to follow a game plot I'd give up right away.

I've done plenty of post work and been a DP for a few commercial projects but full on director? No thanks, too many plates to keep spinning for my liking.

I'd make Shadow of the Colossus, keep it very big in scope, large frames, far back, capturing the giant creatures, and make it a very arty movie, the same way that the game was one of the most beautifully done games to date.

I'd keep the plot the same, and try to include as many of the bosses as possible, within the 2 hour time limit.

I'd just try make the movie beautiful in its simplicity.
yours is probably the best comment ive read for this.

I did not like that movie at all, i can turn a blind eye to movie plot holes, but District 9 was swiss cheese.

Probably a halo movie, or maybe a command and conquer one. Seem like good ideas, and I have a lot of ideas for them already.
