If you had a real life opportunity to create a city what would it be like? This also applies to what time period or fantasy style, you would like in your city too.

For me... A mix between late 17th century Venice, 1920's New Orleans and pre-crusade Damascus. 3 diffrent cultures mashed together to make a megacity the size of modern day San Fransisco filled with canals, cajun and Italian style resturants, beautiful stone and gothic style buildings and large markets, mosques, temples, parks and churches. Plus the pre-20th century setting to make it look more appealing and varied to the large concrete skyscrapers and mass housing developments being built for the past century.

No cars allowed. Underground public transit. Cobblestone streets. And 1800th century style buildings.

It would be clean.
Think Mirror's Edge clean, but with better people running it and slightly less industrial.
And free public transport.

All bars, casinos, strip clubs, and hotels... So basically Las Vegas maybe throw in some star trek doors for good measure. Ohh and every thing is free for me.

A bigass city with huge, shiny, skyscrapers and lots of office buildings and fancy apartments with beautiful architecture. Basically Super-New York City.

In fact that might be what I'd call it.

If I'm in my black moods: The looks of Gotham City with the Imperium from Dark Reign running it.

If I'm in a better mood, it'll be more like all of Tamriel from Oblivion.

A Giant, sprawling city divided into several parts, one of them being the habitation quarter, where all the good Citizens reside in an endless life of pleasantness. The peace is kept by several thousand policemen who constantly patrol the streets in packs, hunting down all criminals to the last. Plenty of fountains, benches, parks and, of course, brick houses for all common people and large mansions for the rich ones.

Then there's the industry quarter, where everyone works and makes things, research happens and so on. The service quarter where everyone goes to buy things and services, and the Military quarter where an entire army resides for defence of the city at any time, who are mostly spread out through the entire city keeping the peace. In the very centre is a large citadel that is basically the hub of all communications, leadership and etc.

All of the separate parts are connected by underground rail, metro and underground highways, all well lit and pleasant to ensure a happy day.

Architectural style would be mostly industrial steampunk/Gothic/Napoleonic era like. Plenty of tall, dark towers and factories with long chimneys. Propaganda on the walls and so on and so forth.

It'd be an exact copy of London, to which I'd make a couple of minor adjustments: Dalston and Shoreditch would be erased and the Underground would be extended further to the south-east and south-west. Oh, and I'd tack on an exact copy of Brighton somewhere towards the south.

That would be nice.

Ever see the third Lord of the Rings movie? You know what city I'm thinking of.

My ultimate city? Either Ankh-Morpork or the city from Transmetropolitan. Or some cross between the two.
