Exactly what it says on the tin. What writer do you think would be able to write a good novel that's based on a video game you like?

For instance, I'd like to see a Shadow of the Colossus novel written by Cormac McCarthy, and if you've read All the Pretty Horses you know why he'd make a good job of it.

How about you?

Well Eric Nylud wrote some good Halo novels. So I'd say what I want has already been done.

i'd like to never again see a game novelization. even when they're good, they're still shite by virtue of being game novelizations.

OT: actually, i seriously can't think of any. maybe Yahtzee writing, say, Borderlands? dunno, that's a stretch, though.

I'm usually not interested in the story so much as the gameplay. Some people rave about the writing in some of these games when it's just so contrived and pretentious: like with a Heavy Rain, Mass Effect, or GTA4.

The only novelization I might read (just out of curiosity) is if Terry Pratchett wrote a book for Katamari Damacy or Peggle.

Other than something off the wall like that I'd rather read books and play games.

Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett. If you have read Good Omens, imagine a story like that in a pointy-clicky adventure. If you haven't read it, what the hell are you doing here? Go. Read. The. Damn. Book!

But what game would they write about?
(Oh, and of course I have read Good Omens.)

Stephen King should write a novelization of Rule Of Rose. i've never played it, but the story is really, really good.

I would love to see a game with a story like Good Omens, one of those point-click adventures a'la Monkey Island would work. Basically Monkey Island 3, but even funnier, and apocalypse instead of zombie pirates.

Disclaimer: I donated $100 (which is lot considering I only make 800 a month and live by myself) to Japan Relief Efforts, I'm allowed to make jokes.
So, what you are saying, if you pay enough, you earn the rights to crack wise about a colossal disaster?
Technically that's what's being said but the way I see it, lighthearted jokes are not the worst things you can be saying. I mean, shit, it's pretty depressing, it's nice to sometimes see something lightening the mood. That 100 dollar donation clearly does show that it's not supposed to be mean-spirited. In the face of this disaster, we can still try to lighten up.

But that's not related so before my rant gets horribly out of hand...

Terry Pratchett. Fallout.

Tell me that wouldn't work.
This would be awesome. I endorse your ideas and wish to subscribe to your newsletter.

Dragon Age is tailor made for the late, great Robert Jordan.
Got agree with you here, though I think Brandon Sanderson could do a good job with it as well, or perhaps George R.R. Martin for a darker take on it.

I think Brent Weeks (He wrote the Night Angel trilogy) could do some real good with the Assassin's Creed series.
