I'll state it as clearly as I can.

You know friends? Friends are people you like to hang out with, they're great fun.
You know video games? Chances are that you like to play video games.
Now you like both of these things right?
So how is combining the two a bad idea?

I don't think there are people who never drink with their friends
Does the word Teetotaler ring a bell?
tbh i prefer to be sober when i game. I like to compete, and i like to progress. As for drinking, I'd rather do that in a bar with friends, or at a get-together.
You seem to think that playing a game with friends isn't considered a get together, it is.
And i hate the Halo series. Played the first and second(Barely holding my disgust), Didn't even bother with the third.
Wow... what an original opinion.
No, Teetotaler does not ring a bell. English is my second language and I have to admit, i have no idea what that means.

As for the 'get-together' I meant a festive get-together with perhaps more than geeky idiots who all share the same view on how awesome halo 3 is. :p(My friends are dumb)

Yes, me not liking halo does look as if it's an original opinion, considering everyone worships it like it's the greatest game ever.

Combining them is not a bad idea, Although imo split-screen is not the best way to do it.

It?s a cross between the developers being lazy, and the companies being greedy. It saves development time, because they only have to code one multi player mode. And the companies are pushing it because if you do want to have some friends over to play, they all have to have the console, and a copy of the game.

How so? You only need the one tv and enough controllers to go around (Or just the patience to have turns)

And before you say "I didn't say it was that bad an idea, I just don't think it's the best"

What I'm saying is that it's an inferior feature that should not be implemented in future games.
Edit: And a teetolater is someone that doesn't drink.

And I still think there is nothing sad about doing something fun with your friends.

And there are plenty of anti-halo and halo-people on this site alone, don't add to
the fire with more of it, either play it or don't.

Actually, contrary to popular belief, there is splitscreen/hotseat with PC games. I think Guitar Hero has it but that was such an awful port no one bothered getting it - Overlord has co-op, Gears of War does too I think (though, I doubt it) - Medieval 2 has it, and Bionic Commando Rearmed!

Though, that's really just trying to say that it's not impossible on PC, but there is definitely a lack of splitscreen on PC. Though I guess it's due to the preferred online play and LAN - definitely LAN'ing more with my Laptop.

Personally I hate split-screen's concept - because split screen is annoying - but I want to play with my friends damnit! Though Shared screen games like BCR, Smash Bros, and the upcoming LBP, I like!

It's the easiest way to do it though. Easy = less hassle = more fun.
Like I said, if I want to hang out with some friends and play video games, I'm doing it for a laugh, not for a life defining gaming experience. I just want to have a bit of fun with my friends.

Sad? Have you ever even gotten drunk with friends at all? It's a right laugh. Even more so when the guy who was beating you in Halo 2 ends up drinking too much and collapses.
Well, it's not a party if it's all sausage.
Who says it is?

What I don't understand is why anyone *glares threateningly at Malvoo* would be against split-screen. You aren't forced to use it and many people want it.

Why does it matter if it's old-fashioned? Plenty of awesome things are old-fashioned, like bonfires.

Yeah, it does take extra work to program it but not much. You wouldn't even notice the delay.

Girls play games too. Espeically in that kind of casual, beer-drinking atmosphere.

I can't believe your arguing hardware on this topic. If your broke this may be the case, but the average gamer is 29 years old making them quite able to have the equipment needed to not have to play split screen. I just think the other options are more enjoyable and obviously so does the majority, making them the best and most fun way to make games in the future.

He was talking about parties and you were talking about sausagefests; I think that might resolve the communication breakdown between the two of you.
I think I would have a better idea of what I was talking about than you would Eggo.

Oh. Well I'm at college and broke. Does that resolve this conflict? I just want good, cheap fun.

I think Xbox LAN is better because you have the advantage of being in the same room without the disadvantage of having smaller screens. But I think split screen is still fun and all multiplayer games should use it. There's really no reason not to have it.

I'm talking about a beer with friends, I beleive that was what I said to begin with...

If I had a choice between playing with some thirteen year old who calls me a ****** for three hours or my awesome, drunk friends. I'm going to pick the latter.
Yeah that seems pretty straightforward.

And for the record I'm agruing with you for claiming that what I was talking about was sausagefests. I'm sorry that you don't know any girl gamers personally, and that apparently none of your friends like to game, but maybe that's something you should work on.
Having a beer with my mates while attempting to play crash team racing is one of the fondest memories I have of my college years (high school for you americans)

Yeah, screenlooking and teaming up on the guy with the top half of the screen in Halo3 deathmatch with 3 players is so much worse than 3 players sitting on opposite sides of a room being as social as they would be if they were all sitting in their own homes and yelling at each other over xbox live...

Going out is bloody expensive. Plus these get togethers are rarely sausage only. I happen to know a fair few girls who are into games, casually at least.
But that's neither here nor there.
My point is split-screen is fun.

True, but not every good thing combines well with other good things. Consider mixing sex and food, and you'll see what I mean.

And while I grew up on old school video games, and I find split screen multiplayer extremely fun, there is a very high chance you'll play with someone who's main strategy is screen peeking (looking at his opponents screen, to get the advantage, and it ruins the fun.

Myself; living reasonably far away from my friends (10 minute drive), it's easier to text them and do some good old fashioned PC gaming. Though, I've never been one to say no to getting drunk and gaming and since I'm one of the only people I know that have been gaming since they were say... three, I can be completely blitzed, and still be beating everyone.

Seriously Eggo... Girls do play videogames.
But yes, split-screen is fun. It doesn't matter if system link or Live has a clearer screen or whatever. If something is fun it shouldn't be removed.

Indeed, split screen is fun.
But it doesn't beat lan parties where you get to smack people in the back of the head, throw things at them, pull out their controller while in combat with you, have the pleasure of hearing a very angry yell from the other side of the room after a kill... And all this while playing on your own screen, ah, the joy.
