What's in a name?

How much do you think the name of a game affects your attitude towards it, specifically when it comes to things like previews and such where usually it's just a link somewhere and the name is all you have to go on before you click on it?

I know there are some games I see the name and think "that sounds interesting" even though the name is the only thing I know at that point.

For an example, what if Bioshock 2 had been called Mr Bubbles Underwater Adventure.

Or Half-Life had been called Gordon's Bad Day At Work

I also welcome any other examples as I have a feeling there will be some very amusing ones.

It's never mattered for games, but pretty much all Anime's I have watched I chose based upon names when I was looking around, simply because I had nothing else to go on.

I love these, I almost fell off my chair at 'Gordon's bad day at work'. Strangely reminds me of the 'Name the game based on the cover art' game.

I don't think names are what seal the deal for me, but as you mentioned, they are what draw me to pick a game along with box art.

The box art usually means more to me than the title, although you can usually find out the genre, theme, and main story element just based on the name.

Well yes if the game is good it doesn't matter what it is called, but I was looking at a long list of release dates on another site and even though I knew nothing about a lot of the games there, only a few of them I had a look at, simply based on the name.

Sort of, if the game shares a name with a Disney movie such as Cars for example, then i know to STAY AWAY

I've played some games with awful names, and still really liked the game. Gameplay is more important than any name.

If a name is that stupid i have to buy the product. If it turns out to be a survival horror action game that is called Mr Bubbles Underwater Adventure it's even more awesome. But again. I only but games if the look good and i guess i am, how's you say... not cool enough to get the titles like Call of duty: Modern Warfare or Red dead Redemption.

If BioShock 2 was called Mr. Bubble's underwater adventure, I definitely would've bought it, no question about it. (no sarcasm here). I still have never played either Bioshock (because I have just about no money to spend on video games anymore).

Unless a game's name is completely disconnected from its gameplay, then it doesn't matter to me. I mean if the game was "Kitten Rescuer 5" and the game was essentially Halo... then yeah, I wouldn't get it.

Edit: Although actually, that'd be kinda awesome, so I guess a name will never make me Not buy a game...
