What's so Bad about Consumerism?

Consumerism, what's so bad about it?

It just promotes selfish behaviour. People get more rich than others and don't share the money around. There are children starving in Africa and we're spending $1000 on phones we don't need.

Although this does raise the question "What is the better alternative?" which I've yet to think of one. Communism and socialism and whatnots just can't work effectively so...

It is doomed to failure?

Its built on a foundation that is completely unsustainable and only serves to filter wealth to the top. Eventually everything underneath gets crushed under the weight.

 

[Lazier Than Thou]

The mindlessness of it. I don't mind the idea of people consuming or people getting rich. Buy what you need. Buy what you want. But buying for the sake of buying? Just seems so foolish to me.
