Ok, so if this thread has been done go ahead and call me whatever names you want, berate me, troll me. I give you permission (if i actually have that power which i don't think i do).

So all my friends are out getting drunk off their ass, underage mind you. Parties galore.

I don't really see the point of them.

What is the point of all the celebration? 10 minutes from now will feel like ten minutes ago did. The earth will still be round. The sky will still be blue. the internet will still work. Iran will still have riots. the oceans will still be full of nuclear submarines. the atmosphere will still be crying at us. the moon will still be receeding. All the while, they're getting drunk off your ass. So..... why again?

The reason people get wasted is to forget all the crap that happened the previous year.

I heard from friends on the east coast that cars fly in 2010, and legs are obsolete.

Sadly these are my thoughts exactly.
But then again, even if I were out their with my chums, I'd end up being the DD(I don't drink lulz). So meh, I don't mind not having to babysit 5 year old's instead of baby-sit drunk 16-17 year olds.
Anyway, the celebration is well, an excuse to celebrate really.

Well for me it means 17 days till my birthday. Other then that, holidays are nice whatever the reason.

I'm not a christian, but I still celebrate Christmas because I see it as an excuse to get together with my family, play some games, socialize, and just generally have a good time. I think, for most people, New Years Eve is the same thing.

So this is the new year
and I don't feel any different
the clanking of crystal
explosions off in the distance

So this is the new year
and I have no resolution
for self-assigned penance
for problems with easy solutions

Then they remember it all the next day anyway.
Unless they die of alcohol poisoning.

Or kill themselves on the drive home.

Or many other things that happens when you mix drunkard behaviour with people who are legally old enough to own weapons and cars.

Because it's fun to socialize and not be so introverted. And not everyone who does it acts like an idiot and does idiotic things, so generalizing them as a bunch of stupid and dangerous drunkies is no more fair then them giving anyone here shit about being a antisocial loser.

You know have my point of view.

Never seen the point of celebrating the new year.

Its just a day. Time is irrelevant. 1 day from now, you'll still feel the same.

You won't look different, you won't feel different (apart from a hangover) and you won't think any different.

Why not? Its just an excuse to party, like thirsty Thursday. I would love to be out somewhere on new years instead of stuck on the internet at work.

I went to bed at 10. I think people just like excuses for parties and days off.
Another topic is WTF are they wasting all that money for? (the government)
I mean surely 10 minute + firework displays off the Sydney Harbour Bridge are unneccissary?
That money spent on the fireworks could have gone towards healthcare or cancer research.

I don't see a point in celebrating New Years with drinking. It's just another day...

What other excuse do you need to get drunk off your ass?

To numb the shit that happened last year.
I had quite a good 2009 with getting with my boyfriend and such, but New Years is meaningless to me.

But, we've completed (Okay, missing a quarter of a day) an orbital cycle around the sun. Surely this is such an accomplishment that we must celebrate. Humanity has come so far to be able to perform such grand feats. Truly, this is a testament to our character, technology, and ability.

Now let's celebrate by firing some more flashy-bangy things in the direction where we believe our vengeful God to be.
