I'm pretty certain a name the quote game will have been done before, so feel free to bring wood and oil if it has. Basically for those who don't know how this game works, [footnote]what damp rock have you been hiding under?[/footnote] all you have to do is work out where the quote the escapist above you is from and then post your own. The quote can be from anything, book, movie, comic, tv, song, whatever. Just remember to post one.

Here's mine, it's fairly long to make up for the obscurity:
"Because she spoke to me, before she died," said Dorlas. "She looked upon us as though seeking one shu had expected, and she said: " Mormegil. Tell the Mormegil that Finduilas is here" She said no more. But because of here latest waord we laid her where she died. She lies in a mound beside Teiglin. Yes, it is a month now ago."

Machines not being made of metal woulda been more helpful. Something sci-fi-ish...maybe even steam punk. Imma guess Metal Gear.

"And we are here as on a darkling plain swept with confused alarms of struggle and flight, where ignorant armies clash by night."

Homer Simpson? Makes sense, at least. I think it's him.

"You were never there for me were you mother? You expected Mike and Carol Brady to raise me! I'm the bastard son of Claire Huxtable! I am a Lost Cunningham! I learned the facts of life from watching The Facts of Life! Oh God!"

God damn, I love the thing this quote's from.

The Cable Guy.

'What do you sell?'
'Shit,' says Salim. 'Worthless gewgaws and baubles and tourist trinkets. Horrible, cheap, foolish, ugly shit.'

we don't have to get confirmation that it's from where we say it's from? Great!

American Gods.

I had absolutely no idea, so I cheated, I had to Google that one, and wow, that is obscure as hell.

"Do you really think all this deters crime, Mr Trooper?" he said.
"Well, in the generality of things I'd say it's hard to tell, given that it's hard to find evidence of crimes not committed," said the hangman, giving the trapdoor a final rattle. "But in the specificality, sir, I'd say it's very efficacious."
"Meaning what?" said Moist.
"Meaning I've never seen someone up here more'n once, sir, shall we go?"

Come on, people, you should know this...

EDIT: Actually, this probably isn't much less obscure. Oh well.

Going Postal!

The first Genevieve Dieudonné knew of the treachery of Ueli the dwarf was the prod of a blade-end in her right side, just above the hip. Cloth and skin dimpled, and she felt a wasp-like sting. There was something about the knife. It slipped under the flaps of her padded leather jerkin and into her flesh.
Silver. The knife was edged with silver.

"It's all a joke! Everything everyone ever valued or struggled for... it's all a monstrous, demented gag! So why cant you see the funny side... why arent you laughing?

It's the Joker but I don't know which Batman it's from though...

The man-shell shrank, the boy shell shrivelled...
All the former selves were dead. There was only the Beast.
It takes its claw and prepares for the last of them. The last of the disgusting women. The worst of them.
It is not sure wether it is hunting, or waiting. Anyway, it will be over soon.
This is the last of the grudge kills.

The beast pads through the palace. It is proud to walk in the light. It - no, she - does not need to hide any longer.
There is some else in her mind, troubling her. A woman, a filthy woman! The Beast sees red hair, a pretty face.
There's a number, too 317-5037. The woman presence doesn't understand. 317-5037?
The Beast is puzzled, for a moment. Then, it becomes clear. And she laughs...

My first two were from "The Children of Hurin" by J. R. R. Tolkien and "Dracenfels" by Jack Yeovil

... that goes right over my head, sorry

"What is a ghost? A tragedy condemned to repeat itself time and again? An instant of pain, perhaps. Something dead which still seems to be alive. An emotion suspended in time. Like a blurred photograph. Like an insect trapped in amber. A ghost, that is what I am"

Of course! The Devil's Backbone. I've just been watching it again, and I nearly jumped out of my skin when I heard it.

"You get a shiver in the dark
It's raining in the park but meantime
South of the river you stop and you hold everything
A band is blowing Dixie double four time
You feel alright when you hear that music ring"

It's from "Beasts in Velvet", one of the stories in "The Vampire Genevieve"

Sultans of Swing! I love that song, and you get a cigar for knowing about The Devils Backbone too.

So, lets go down the musical path now.

"Edna Million in a drop dead suit
Dutch Pink on a downtown train
Two-dollar pistol but the gun won't shoot
I'm in the corner on the pouring rain
Sixteen men on a dead man's chest
And I've been drinking from a broken cup
Two pairs of pants and a mohair vest
I'm full of bourbon, I can't stand up"

Tom Waites (Spelling?) Jockey Full of Bourbon.

"Where do you think you're going?
Don't you know it's dark outside?
Where do you think you're going?
Don't you care about my pride?
Where do you think you're going?
I think that you don't know
You got no way of knowing
There's really no place you can go"

No quote to work from, so I'll just go ahead and say my own.

A personal favourite.

"You were only supposed to blow the bloody doors off!"

An awesome quote from an awesome movie, The Itallian Job. And also not_th_dm yours is from Dire Straites right?

"Do you know what nemesis means? A righteous infliction of retribution manifested by an appropriate agent. Personified in this case by a horrible ****... me."

Snatch, we believe.

"Kill one man, you are a murderer.
Kill ten men, you are a monster.
Kill a hundred men, you are a hero.
Kill a thousand men, you are a conqueror!"

Boyar Alexandr of Kislev (The sixth edition of the Warhammer Fantassy rulebook, page 36)

"can't do the talk like the talk on the tv
and I can't do a love song like the way its meant to be
I can't do everything but I'd do anything for you
can't do anything except be in love with you

and all I do is miss you and the way we used to be
all I do is keep the beat the bad company
all I do is kiss you through the bars of a rhyme
Juliet I'd do the stars with you any time"
