It's just one of these things i just don't understand. It could be my fanboyism towards RPG's but still, one of the main reason's people buy COD is for multiplayer. You get a short campaign and then the rest is multiplayer, but what's the point in buying a new game if all you wanna do is play with your friends?

But what's the point in buying another one over and over again if you just want multiplayer?

Even though the campaign is relativly short, it's very well paced and there are some awesome set pieces. The multiplayer is frantic and fun with a lot of upgrades and incentive to keep playing.

But it's also one of those games that acts as a magnet for noobs.

Apparently they are. I'm sick of all the "why do people like X game even though I don't?" threads. It's not that hard to get. They're popping up practically daily! I kinda feel like the mods should do something about it.

It's simple and easy enough to play that anyone can get themselves some kills, not only that but it's also rather fun so putting these together ends up with a large fanbase, many of whom are, unfortunately totally lacking in any mental capacity.

You could apply this to RPGes, you know. Why buy a game in which you explore around a bit, fight lots of battles and end up saving the world, like the Final Fantasy games?

[sup]I like the Final Fantasy series, BTW.[/sup]

Why is it so hard to understand that some other people have different tastes in games than you ?

That's a rather redundant question. It's fun, which is what gaming is all about. Many games now primarily focus on Multiplayer.

Is it that hard to understand that fun doesn't exist in a vacuum? Have you ever heard anyone say "every last thing about this game is shit, but it's fun?"

Shooting things = fun

Shooting things with friends = more fun

I don't like the games myself but at least the modern warfare ones aren't set in WW2 time period that's a welcome change to shooters

I don't play CoD for the multiplayer. I like CoD because the missions are hard, the environments are varied and engaging, they balance out different styles of gameplay (stealth, action, vehicles) and, in the case of CoD4 especially, the story was delivered with brilliance and subtlety.

I've always actually preferred the single player.

Well crafted, action packed and forever being perfected. And a lot of fun - what's not to like?

They're also now not set in WW2 (yay!) and or MW2 they seem to be adding a fair bit of variety.

It's a shame in a way that Activision are publishing for them - they've proven (or Bobby Kotick has at least) to be the biggest nobs (and not in a good way) in the industry during the past year.

They even thought no one would ever like an FPS not set in WW2. Although, to be fair, I did see absolutely loads of requests from people to carry on with the forever fruitful WW2 setting...

Right on there, Activision...

I'm talking about IW games by the way. Treyarch's games don't count.

The Campaign is usually interesting, action parked and pretty! Key points stick in my mind from each Cod, such as the raids in Africa, assaulting Pointe-du-Hoc, placing the flag on the Reichstag, Sniping in Chernobyl, and jumping in during Market Garden. The original Cod having a special place in my heart for portaying alot of the scenes from band of brothers. It may be simple and simplistic at times but its fun!

The online scene is huge with a massive competetive community.

Replayability including customization and challenges.

Vareity of weapons, being both historical/realistic and they are balanced (mostly).

Its a simple forumla that works and its well....Great.

However I do hope they branch out into other conflicts such as Korea or Nam after MW2.

Maybe this is hard logic to follow... but if they release a newer, presumably BETTER online multiplayer experience... why would you NOT buy it? I'll pose the same question to you, why buy newer RPGs? Every Final Fantasy since the 90s has been the exact same thing with spiffier graphics, so why buy it? Because it's new and shiny, that's why.
