Why is bacon such a "thing"? I mean, it tastes all right, but it's not the greatest food ever made. But, you still have bacon everywhere. Bacon clothing, plushies, coffee, etc. Basically, everywhere except as normal bacon, except we have that too. That's not even counting all the joke options on polls here being "Really Good Bacon".

Is there some secret meeting I missed where the whole Internet agreed to worship bacon? Seriously, what's the deal?

I don't know really. On one hand, bacon is delicious, on the other hand, pretty much any meant can be cooked to be delicious. I suppose bacon is just the easiest meat to cook. The Internet isn't known for it's lack of laziness. add the two together and you may get an answer.

But also, bacon goes with everything bacon pancakes? Yeah! Bacon and cheese? M-m-m-m. Bacon pizza? Had one today, already. Bacon and eggs? O-oh, baby that's a hardcore classic, that is. Chocolate covered bacon? Well, I haven't had any but I've heard it's absolutely awesome - best of both worlds - meat and chocolate. I can't think of a food that cannot be improved by adding bacon. You even have stuff like bacon flavoured popcorn and so on. They taste good. Better than the plain versions and often better than any other flavours.

Everyone these days is obese. It's only to be expected that they would like foods that make them obese. Otherwise they would no be so very spectacularly obese.

Bacon is probably my favourite meat product, it's just so awesome.

Growing up it was a bit of a luxury for my family, along with ham, I pretty much only had it at Christmas. I suppose that's why.

I've had all such baconified products and they're all better for it - I don't normally like chocolate but I love bacon chocolate I had.

I'm an endurance cyclist (ie, I cycle long distances - like in the summer I'm doing London to Paris) and a triathlete - I'm far from obese or unhealthy and I eat bacon a couple of times a week. Just because a food is fatty doesn't mean it's bad for you and don't forget your body requires fat to function optimially, it's about moderation and what else you have in your diet combined with how active your lifestyle is - that's what makes so many fat sacks these days.

We live in an era of convenience (well, westerners) so we don't exert ourselves without having to go out of our way to do so (gym) and we can eat prepared meals so we don't have to bother cooking which are usually cramped with the worst forms of food. It's not bacons fault, it's endemic in modern culture, bacon can just be a facilitator of this.

The bacon worship is mostly an 'Mericun thing, so here in the Netherlands we barely get subjected to it.

Good thing too, I enjoy meat, but bacon is just rancid. It's not even meat, it's baked fat with copeous amounts of salt over it.

Same reason the internet loves cats, ponies, and meme faces. It's the "in" thing to like. Which ends up not being "it's popular because it's liked" but "it's liked because it's popular".

I don't really know why bacon became the big 'thing' it's become with toys and hygene products. Not even cake, which shows up on the internet with crazy shapes and themes, has the same level of popularity. The only good reason I can think of is because it's so quick and easy to cook and goes well with so many other things. Not only that but people with the time, skill, and patience on their side can cook bacon into crazy things as well. The super thin slices of raw meat can be shaped easily and cooked into a crispy shape.

Want proof? Google "bacon beer mug" "flaming bacon lance" or "bacon skyrim helmet" to see for yourself.
