Wherever I go on the internet, I find lolcats & longcats, rick-rolls, companion cube jokes, something about a mudkip, and mostly 4chan. WHAT IS THE DEAL WITH IT, I mean is it a formula to wealth so everyone wants to do it, what is the reason for its popularity, and also it's not fun, it's depressing. Have you done any of the things above and what do you think about them.

Also it reminds me of this [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/comics/stolen-pixels/5141-Stolen-Pixels-13-HypoCRITICAL]

Memes.

Surely you've been on the internet long enough to come to terms with the fact they may come and go, but will never truly die, right?

I'm fine with them, one of them is my MSN alert tone.

Just stay away from the crap sites. I spend half my computing time on the internet and because I usually use a few sites regularly I barely ever come across the crap. And aside from the occasional curious foray, I never go onto 4chan. Just stay away from those sites and you'll be fine.

The Escapist. It's Safer Here.

Are you asking what's the reason for the popularity of those specific memes, or the popularity of the internet in general? As for shit like lolcats and rick-rolls, I really couldn't tell you. I think it speaks volumes about the average person, and what they find funny. To be fair, I have indulged myself in all of those things (apart from the companion cube jokes, because those piss me off, particularly because they're often made by people who haven't even fucking played Portal), but they get really old after a while.

That being said, that stolen pixels comic was hilarious.

Yes the Escapist is safer, and while I have been on the internet for a while, I still found no purpose of the so called "memes", also the link is to a Stolen Pixel :D
